They'd be the fake equivalents.

I'd really doubt the "ghetto ass girls" could afford a $500 Prada shirt.

Tommy and Ralph Lauren were aimed squarely at the suburban white boy market, and have been out of style for a while now.

what the hell? can someone smack this man?

Tommy replaced Guess as the most popular poor man's clothing around 1992 or so and it dominated until the late 90's with allegations of Tommy Hilfiger being racist... Ralph Lauren then had a bit of a surge and is still strong ghetto-wise.

if anything, rappers popularized Tommy and Polo... I know Hilfiger would say that himself; i've seen an interview where he said straight up that rappers popularized his label.

That's bull, rappers are more into bling than the simplicity of Tommy.

Help yourself to an AD-FREE life

ASHER:

http://www.pbs.org/newshour/infocus/fashion/hiphop.html

quote:
Baggy pants, oversized athletic jerseys, expensive sneakers, long a fashion standard of the hip-hop community, have become the unofficial uniform of suburban fans. And thanks to music videos, films and hip-hop magazines, teens in the suburbs and outside the U.S. can stay informed with "what's going on" in the city.

This suburban emulation of urban style not only confirms the cross-cultural popularity of hip-hop, but it also recognizes the importance of the "street" in determining fashion trends. In the world of hip-hop, "street credibility" means acceptance. And for the fashion industry, attaining "street credibility" can mean big profits.

But not all big fashion designers lack credibility with the hip-hop community. Tommy Hilfiger, in particular, has achieved unparalleled success with the hip-hop community by bridging the gap between urban cool and classic preppy. His clothing has been worn by a virtual "who's who" in the world of hip-hop. Everyone from Snoop Doggy Dogg to KRS-One have donned Tommy gear, while other rap artists, like Q-Tip of A Tribe Called Quest, have praised his clothing in their music.

"And others couldn't figga, How me and Hilfigga, Used to move through with vigga."
- Q-Tip of A Tribe Called Quest

Besides the bright colors and baggy fit of his clothing line, Tommy Hilfiger's success in the hip-hop community also may be attributed to aggressive marketing and foresight. While most of the big fashion designers were ignoring the hip-hop world, Tommy Hilfiger courted its most prominent rappers and showered them with apparel. His moment of triumph came when Snoop Doggy Dogg performed on Saturday Night Live in 1994, dressed from head to toe in Tommy clothing. Snoop's performance exposed Tommy Hilfiger to a national audience, and according to industry estimates, Tommy Hilfiger sales increased $90 million dollars that year.

Then again, the people with a brain never bought Tommy to begin with. Nothing more than re-badged Hanes.

The only designer stuff I buy is CK, and that's because they truly have more comfortable underwear.

Speer is right Asher.

TH used to market towards the preppy crowd but discovered that his clothes were selling in truckloads to urban black youth, who aspired to the "living large" philosophy.

As usual, the rot then spread to the whities.

Really Watson?? You don't say?

That doesn't mean you have to follow the latest trend or drop your whole paycheck just to get the latest designer label.

That is like so 1980s Valley Girl for sure.

You can still dress sharp and not break the bank. Surprisingly I have gotten mad compliments on shirts I have bought at places like TJ Maxx or Marshall's.

Broadcasting to the world that you are a label whore makes you look like a tool.

If you ask my girlfriend she will say not nearly enough

I spend around the same as Japher. I have like four pair of shoes (not counting my military ones) that I wear. Two sneakers for every day wear a pair of dress shoes and some that I used to wear when I worked at my civilian job.

I have like 6 pair of military boots and pair of military dress shoes. I have probably spent more money in the past year on my military uniforms than I have civilian clothes. I only get four pair of uniforms issued. 2 summer and 2 winter so its just easier to go out and get my own to cut down on washing and wear.

Full PM-box? Change here!

I buy my clothes off the black market. It's cheaper and real enough. Besides, I found an interesting fact - most of the clothes from S.E. Asia's blackmarkets are in fact original. Originally commisioned that is. What happens is that the big companies like GAP or Abercrombie for example outsources to several factories the same contract. The one that delivers first gets the deal. The others that produced it late? Off to the black markets if Reject Shop or Factory Outlet don't accept it.

You see, we have these wonderful things called landscapes and nature outside of the ghetto.

In Ontario, the big thing is to get a "Cottage" up by the lakes. They're usually deep in wooded areas right on the lake, so you can go boating, you can party and get totally ****ed up, and then go hiking in the day.

In Alberta, you get "cabins", and they're nestled deep in the Rocky Mountains, usually with spectacular views.

They easily can cost more than a yacht, and are more fun for parties.

And I should add that while they're called cottages and cabins, they're usually actual houses, not dinky little run-down sheds.

Who said anything about a log cabin?

They're usually actual houses. Though frequently they are made out of wood for that old-school feel.

This is the kind of thing I'm talkin' bout:
