Offensive Naval Screen Support Apolyton, buy Galactic Civilizations

Okay, I had about an hour free and I decided to spend it on you weenies.

I've created a plan for a naval screen which instead of watching OUR shores for incoming GWT ships (which would be a daunting task even with a navy many times larger than what we have), it instead looks for GWT ships LEAVING their shores heading for us. Because of the shape of the other continent (elongated east-to-west, rather than ours which is north-to-south) there are only a few lanes that head for us, even if GWT goes a strange direction.

The entire plan calls for 22 ships between both us and CFC as a minimum for "relative security." The plan should be bolstered with a further 6 or so ships to make it even more safe. Between all of these ships, we will be able to see any GWT invasion coming many turns in advance. They may (and most likely will) try to take out some parts of our net in order to distract us, but the plan for the net has two levels and nearby ships should be able to cover any holes GWT creates pretty well. However, we WILL need reinforcements to prevent GWT from boring through entirely. If GWT attacks with enough ships, we won't be able to handle many breaches, so we should NOT simply get 22 ships built and then consider ourselves safe.

The net is divided into east and west sections, with 12 ships in the west and 10 in the east. Currently we have 12 Caravels and CFC has about 4. That means we need 6 more constructed between each of us in order to get to the first level of defense, and as I mentioned, we should have backups queued and on their way so that our front lines cannot be overrun.

GCA has been ignored. They only have a couple boats and will not be a military threat for some time. Even if they were to land, it's doubtful they'd do ANY damage before being destroyed. It is GWT we need to be worried about. The one GCA area which I have covered is the section between GCA/CGN land and GWT. GCA could gift the canal cities to GWT, allowing them to sneak through that way. This means we have to be alert to that possbility and cover all routes leading out of the central GWT-GCA Channel.

I would like to post this at the UN in order to help get CFC set up as well. The sooner we get things up the better. We especially need some boats sent east, as CFC's 4 is all we have and the plan calls for 8 more

I have divided the net into 4 images. The ships are numbered, as there is some overlap between the images. The yellowish-green tiles are ones visible by fortified Caravels. Red tiles are where the Caravels are actually located. The net is designed so that there are NO holes where ships moving 3 tiles per turn could sneak through.

And here is a map of the entire world with the west screen on the right and the east screen on the left. Each boat is numbered as in the previous images.

I'm just curious about 8 on the SW screen. It's right on their shore. Do we want to be that close?

Full PM-box? Change here!

Is does no harm to be that close at all. Srew them if thay ask us to leave. It's like that Galley we had a long time ago near their Northern coast and they asked us to leave back then; big mistake we made in leaving then I say. We gained nothing at all by leaving, just as I said we would.

Help yourself to an AD-FREE life

The closeness is by design. GWT will likely attack our ships either way, and the plan is to have enough backups to make it too costly for them to keep trying to take us out (fortified vet 2 defense Caravels will likely take out 2+ Galleys if attacked) and simply accept our ever-present eye.

We need to see GWT coming 3-4 turns in advance. 4 is ideal, but 3 is more realistic because they'll likely take out a picket or three as they blast through to try and blind us, and it will be up to our secondary net to see the real force coming. We need at least 3 turns warning in order to be completely sure of stopping them. 2 is acceptable if we have enough units ready and they head for an area where we expect them to, but 3 is much better (27 tiles of warning is very useful!)

If a ship is right next to their shore, can't they bombard it to heck with cats/cannons and then take it out easily with one ship?

Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

Correct. We could simply step one square off the coast in that case, though. I would actually reccomend moving both 8 and 9 one square east for exactly that reason, and to close a "sneak lane." There would be some net-redundancy, but I think it would be wiser, particularly to avoid early provocation.

Good point.

I'll redo the images in a bit with those changes.

Tired of ads?

Any chance CFC could contribute a few boats to the plan?

I talked with CFC and it appears they should be able to help out, but the details will have to be worked out.
