New thread for discussion on settings for new game for the Highspeed game crew.

Highspeed is a great little game that is approaching the BC's so we are looking to decide the settings for a new game to follow on the heels of the first. We can most likely send both saves together if we follow the same play oreder as highspeed

My suggestions for a new game would be, no scientific civs and no scietific leaders, to slow down tech and to dismiss wonder rushing. I also thought of increasing tech costs but that would require a fair bit of meddling with the editor which Id rather not do.

Whatever map Id like raging barbs, just for the hell of it

I thought Pangea with least water large or standard map, though I like bigger maps myself, medium age and wetness.

My only other thoughts regarding this is whether you guys were interested in writing up about your turns and making a sort of AAR come story out of this for Civ3 stories ? only a suggestion you dont have to

seems all good

if you want to slow down tech pace, maybe it would be better to just raise the tech rate number in the world size.

Hmmm interesting thought, Ill have a dabble with it and test it out.

Have any of you tried out the Rise and Rule Mod ? its made by the same crew who did the DYP mod but its specially for conquests. Ive been playing a game with it SP and thinking it might be cool for a PBEM.

what's clear is that this game will take a very very long time to play. even if we clock 1 turn per day

the trouble with the RAR mod is that it doesn't really change that much, except many techs are moved into the ancient era and offers more units. but in the end... isn't a war usually fought with 2 or 3 units (attacker, defender, sometimes bombardment)?

disabling SGLs sounds fine, but why not keep scientific civs? they only have cheaper libraries (nothing else cheaper) and that additional free tech.

but anyway, i'll probably not choose scientific anyhow.

for the game settings: pangea is perfect.

but with raging barbarians, why don't we use a 3 billion year world? that leaves it with large mountain ranges and big jungles.

in fact, maybe we could even use the tarzan-mod, which makes jungle/forrest-chopping very expensive, no cities on anything but grassland, floodplains and plains. every fast unit has "wheeled" except the scout. could be fun

I think you are right about the RAR mod, it will take a long time.

The reason Im thinking along these lines of slowing tech is I like the ancient and middle ages, and they are sometimes over too soon. Legionaires are a great UU but there usefullness is very short lived because feudalism along. the same can be said of many of the UU's though.

Nah, you just have to declare war early on Doesn't happen too often in MP/PBEM because you're playing with real people and it takes time to get the feel of alliances and whatnot

IIRC, There is no clearing of jungle/forest/swamp at all, and forest is also impassable to wheeled units. Alexman also did alot of vodoo with corruption to encourage smallish empires and lots of 'no-man's land' for settling disagreements...

that is the problem of PBEMs. one seldom attacks in the ancient age. probably because very early on one wouldn't have chance against more than one player.

when i got the germans in the frist AP-Elim game, i intended in changing that by trying to archer-rush the oponents

for slowing down the tech race, why don't we just put the tech rate up to that of large maps? or if we add AI (makes the game fairer imho), maybe even higher that that?
with this, sometimes even a 50-turn-writing gambit may work

By Voodoo you mean making each citizen cost 1gpt upkeep ...

Full PM-box? Change here!

True But, I think the 1gpt upkeep per citizen is the one that hurts the most ... I couldn't get beyond 1000 BC in a SP game with that mod and still have a halfway decent tech rate ...

At last game started and 4000BC away to sabrewolf

Used the same turn order as highspeed so it can be sent at the same time when it catches up with the correct player

sent you all an email with info on the settings etc, let me know if theres anything you dont like or want changing, or for that matter whether you feel you need a restart

ROP rape is where you sign ROP with an AI then attack them whilst your troops are in their land. Some of the CFC'ers se it as an exploit which Im half and half in agreement, and will happily apply it as a rule not to do it if the rest of you agree.

i would consider that an exploit too, but probably not forbidden as you can do the same in single player. it definatly ruins your reputation with the other AI

but i think there are worse exploits. how about we stick to the ironciver etiquette?
