	Eyes: A Strategy Challenge for you.... Enter the AD-FREE zone

Eyes, would you like to play a proper 1x1x MP game with Apolyton players?
I suggest Friday nights USA time which would also suit some Aussies like me.
If we can organise this I want it to be a genuine game, not a grudge thing either way, where we all put our strategies to the test. You'll get plenty of ideas for your new GL strat section.

I'm interested in any settings:
No Wonders?
No alliance?
No bribing....

The only thing I insist on for a *proper* game is 1x1x MP (not duel).

How about it?

Test your skills and I can test mine....

If you want more balance in the game maybe we could have 3 Apolytoneers and 3 Gameleaguers?

Even though Frank (Dangime) annoys the hell out of me I love playing him Maybe he could play?

And what Aploytoneers are interested if Eyes does take up this challenge?

It would be great if we could get one of the super players involved like arii, Nappy or markus...... there are others I know

To ensure integrity in the game it would be great if the seventh player could host as a neutral - just a thought.

If this does happen we commit to playing say, every USA Friday night, and MUST find a sub if unavailable. We run a strategy thread here where we discuss the game ad infinitum.... Each civ posts EVERY session.

I reckon if you took up this challenge Eyes, you would still be a winner even if you came last.

I barely have enough patience for a 4 player 2x2x multiplayer game. Let alone a 7 player one. And on 1x1x I would never be able to sit still long enough. I'd be willing to play a 2x2x 3 on 3, but that's my limit when it comes to multiplayer. Or 4 players. 1x1x is just too slow and boring.

That's a pity cos 1x1x is the REAL game!
I play 2x as well and find much interest in the differing strategies required.
How can you run a strat section if your view of the game is restricted to 2x?

BTW I've been reading thru your strat section and, although interesting, is poorly introduced.
All the way thru it ASSUMES 2x play but for the newbie each section needs to have a header explaining the game parameters required for the 'following' strat to work.
You sometimes mention the dificulty level and map size but I suggest a clear 'game profile' in the first para of each section.

To get an MP game happening with you I'd consider 2x1x with at least 4 players on at least a medium map. How about it?
Wouldn't you love to play a game that got into the modern era

I was saying to Frank/Dangime that GL is very 2x dominated but we really need a 1x place, like the new league. BTW I'd love to get together with Apolyton type players who wanted to play duels on HUGE maps that forced gameplay into the modern era.... the game would probably progress quite quickly until the MP showdown - howies/nukes mwahahahaha

It's too easy to get into boring ruts, especially with 2x2x small mindedness

ummmmm...who says we don't go into the modern era? I have Leadership and close to steam engine by 1000BC every single game. By 1 AD I'm around 2 turn discoveries or in some cases 1 turn discoveries. The only reason I don't go to the modern age is because nobody lasts long enough. As for not telling whether or not it's 1x1x, this strategy section is geared towards gameleague, not apolyton. Therefore everything is 2x2x. These strategies will work on 2x1x too, just not all of them. Unfortunately the opinions of Apolyton players will not be taken into consideration when this strategy section is made, at least not until you join gameleague and become an active participant. Why you continue to present your opinions when you have no affiliation with the site is beyond me. If you want a 1x1x strategy up there, submit it. Otherwise forever hold your peace.

Anyway, I am in GL - not that active though.

Isn't Xin's Size 5 strat a 1x?
(I tried it out in 2x SP and had Monarchy before the strat could kick in)

It's all very unclear and if you listen to my advise you could improve the quality of the section.

BTW Demographics is spelt wrong on your index page

The section IS quite interesting but I think at least one of the so-called strats you've posted (not one of yours) is an outright cheat strat!

And you didn't answer the challenge?

I dont think that I understand Sean's comments regarding GL. I played in 2 GL tournaments(and won) back in Nov. 1999 and early 2000. Both tournaments were 1x1x King. I stopped playing in GL tourneys when they went to tribe play. When did they switch to 2x2x as the sole game parameter?

gameleague is not completely 2x2x, some games are 1x1x and 2x1 also... just not many players want to play " a real game"...

i do agree that sean should expand his game profile, 2x2x has to be boring by now, he knows everything about it, even how to change the rules.txt to suit his expansion strategies...

SeanEyes knows that he can't win against really top players at normal settings. It doesn't matter how the negotiations turn out, if it is not his tunnel-vision specialty, he won't play.

It must just drive him frantic sometimes...

As much as I usually don't mind it when everyone piles on Eyes, I'm not getting any satisfaction out of it here.

I guess I don't like it when people are picked on for the settings they prefer to play. Sure he likes 2x2x because it benefits his style of play. That's natural. I prefer 2x1x deity raging games on tiny worlds and guess what? It benefits my style of play. What came first, my proficiencies or my like for those settings. It doesn't matter, I LIKE those settings.
I play some 1x1x. I'm not as good at those settings, because since I find 1x1x boring, I don't get as much experience with those settings. I hate non-deity games so even less experience. I don't even know the happiness factors for any game less than deity. I don't care. And when I sub in games that are, I always build the temples too early and fall behind in spitting out settlers. I guess that makes me a lessor man.

Ok OK I'll stop rambling on.

Let's not turn these forums into a place where a man can me mocked for his settings preferences. I don't mind discussing the merits but let's not use insults.

IT's a game and we play games to have fun.

Gots to say, I'm with Rah on this one.
Different strokes for different folks.
WHICH IS WHY, they need to have different divisions in any league.
Including my once, twice, thrice proposed Hack Attack Division.
So we could have 1x , 2x, 1x moves 2x prod, and Hackers.
Suddenly most problems go away.

you can check the game history of players to see what kind of games they play. 2x2x 1x1x 2x1x etc. I think there are plenty of 2x1x games out there.
