Sid Stupidity Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

I started a new game, stock rules, sid, huge map, as the dutch. I was aiming for an OCC game, to see how long I could live, not to win. I was aiming to build the Colossus, but it seems that that goal is not really possible...

Enjoy...

Help yourself to an AD-FREE life

Well, the Byzantines do start with BW and are near the coast, so it's not that surprising. It would only be, what, 120 or 80 shields?

Yes, 80 shields. Still, assuming that they started building the Wonder 5 turns into the game (the AI needs to have reached a certain point in its REX before starting Wonders), that's a 8 shields per turn average.

I would not be surprised if they got an SGL.

Bryzantie are scientific and lucked out and got an SGL upon completing their very first tech.

While a human would have saved the SGL for a more expensive wonder, the AI used it on the one wonder they definately had the tech for.

Full PM-box? Change here!

I know, but I think that OOC will have to stay down on Emp, for the time being atleast. On Demi it is difficult to get the wonders required, on Sid it is just stupid.

Boris, the terrain graphics of Warpstorms, but I use Neissuhs' borders (dotted), and his Bonus grassland and his multimine graphic alterations. I change it every couple of weeks, when I get bored of the terrain.

RE: Strat: I was attempting to make a worker pump, pump out about 8-10 workers, a couple of Curraghs if I had forest chops available for scouts and then start The Colossus. All the terrain improvements would be up and running in about 40 turns, and the city would be size 12. It seems, however, theat I spend way to many shields trying to do that on Deity. I'll try again tonight though.

Colossus aside, what does an OCC city need a Granary for?

EDIT: Sorry I didn't read the whole thread. That much workers seem a bit hefty, anyway. I played OCCs (not at Sid though, or with C3C for that matter), but I never built more than 4.

Krill,

Even I would not start an OCC game on Sid, unless you play with only 2 civs and your opponent is confined to a 1-tile island!

Would that make it a 1TG?

However, keep us posted.

After spending about 4 hours in total starting games, looking at the start and not even getting a river, I have deciding to go to the editor and generate a map, and then adding in my start. I know that it is kinda unlikely, but I think anything goes if I am going to attemt Sid OCC...

And the save, for anybody interested: I only aim to stay about 10 techs behind the leader. It is a tiny map, with the Ottomans, Persia and Eygpt.

I have been doing 20K runs, posting at CFC (in HOF) forums.
Its not a OCC but a lot like it.
A couple of key things is to use very bad map settings.
For my last game for example (demigod) I used archipelago, max water, 3 million dry arid.
You can restart to get a good start, so you want the AIs to get crappy terrain, since it wont really affect you.
I got lucky and they both started on islands with mostly mountains and no fresh water.

Krill,

Forget what I stated before. Your ideas are contagious, you know...

Doing fine by the end of the Ancient Times, but you really have to generate your own map and 'twist' it a bit...

Vikings can do OCC on Sid with a decent random 80%/Archipelago/Tiny start.

Aeson: Why not use the Dutch instead? Would it be to trash the capitals if the AI approaches the 20'000 culture mark?

Basically it's to destroy the AI early, and then go for a late 20k with no competition. Curragh or two, Great Library, Barracks, Archers/Galleys... and then upgrade to Beserkers. Keep building Beserkers and Galleys until you've razed all but one AI city, don't bother with any units outside the AI cities. Once the AI are in hand then work on culture.

Other civs can do this, but the Vikings are best at it. Doesn't work every time. You need to get the Great Library. Need to get Invention (or at the least, Feudalism and Engineering) before the Great Library goes obsolete.

If the AI aren't killed on a Tiny map, it's my experience that most of the time one of the AI will hit the Domination limit.

Interesting approach Aeson.
Mine is a bit more peaceful. I just thought of vmxa1 post about 860+ units with 5 cities, so I'm playing France for obvious reasons and hope to get a diplo win. I'll keep you posted.
