And if this race turns out to be a close race, 6% might make the difference.

You still are younger and naive .

The Supreme Court voted 7-2 that the recount violated the Equal Protection Clause, but only 5-4 that it should be stopped because of the 'Safe Harbor' provision that was provided. It was a damned if you do, damned if you don't. If the results weren't certified on that date, then the legislature of Florida would be able to vote on who the electors should go through. Then you may have two different sets of electors who say they are the true Florida electors and Congress would have to sort it out.

Let's say that going over the Safe Harbor would have resulted in quite a mess. I consider it like Ford pardoning Nixon. They both took a lot of flak for doing something to prevent further political bloodshed.

Glad to see you still have your priorities in order.

Myself? NH hasn't sent me my absentee ballot yet (damnit). My planned votes:

President: Kerry if NH is in any way close, Badnarik or Cobb if not. (never mind what I think about the Free Staters. )
Governor: Lynch (the Democrat)
U.S. Senate: Judd Gregg. I like Granny D, but her campaign is something of a farce. Besides, Judd Gregg graduated from my high school.
U.S. House: Martha Fuller Clark (the Democrat)
State senate, state house, dogcatcher, etc.: Dunno who's running. Given my ignorance on that, I'll probably just leave that part of the ballot blank, or write-in someone random who lives in the district.

I wonder how you guys are so comfortable telling who you are going to vote and who you actually voted.

In here, even married couples sometimes don't tell each other who they really voted. It's a topic you don't talk about, period. You just don't ask who you voted for, and you just avoid the whole subject all together.

I know it's silly, but I still feel it's weird you guys are so open to talk about it, the opposite is built in me.

The only time we can say who we voted is when someone ****s up and then you say 'hey I voted the other guy anyway'. Or 'And I voted for this fool?!'. That's it.

I mean I remember some years back, the last presidential election.. I asked my dad who he voted for and he didn't tell, my mom was there too and she didn't tell either. It was clear they hadn't told each other either. That's the way it goes .

Pretty much the same here. Personally I don't mind telling who I vote for. But I don't know what most of my family or friends vote, nor do I ask. That would be awkward. I have my suspicions of course..

Gangerolf, yeah.. I think it's like this unwritten rule, that getting tensions between individuals especially in the family and friends, about politics and things like who you vote for is totally unnecessary and BOUND to happen at some point.

Personally, if someone has the guts to ask me who I voted, I prolly will tell. But I will be offended by the question itself. Unless it happens on the internet, then I'm not offended, if face to face.. I think it is offending. But I will tell. However I will never ask that question in real life from no one. Unless I'm asked first and I tell. Then I ask who that someone else voted for, because they're obviously dying to tell.

You aren't supposed to talk about politics in polite company. But that's all that polite company talks about every 4 years during campaign season.

Anyway, what's the big deal? It's only politics, right? My mom and dad split their votes for decades (my mom a Republican of long-standing and my dad a social-conscience Democrat). Didn't seem to impact their marriage negatively, but then I'm not sure how much they discussed their decisions leading up to election day.

I've been avoiding posting who I'm voting for. But many of you have already known I have said I'm voting for 3rd party candidate, I've never said which one. You can probably figure it out. It's not that I want this person to be president- though I can't see how they can do a much worse job than Bush. How hard can it be? It's a protest vote. I usually vote republican, but the republican party has really gone to hell lately. And the democratic party has really declined since the 60's when they were great. There are very few democrats I like.
