Mr. Smilie stared at the cradle. In a moment he seemed to hear a soft female voice singing a lullaby … “What are you doing over here?” He was startled by Mr. Kassiopiea’s voice.
“Look here.” Mr. Smilie invited. “These are the least things I would expect to find.”
“I am not going to worry about what happened in the past.” Commented Mr. Kassiopiea. “We’ve got enough problems of ourselves.” He looked out of the painted window. Was that a black wing that flashed past? He shivered. “It’s late. We better get down.” He thought of inviting Mr. Smilie to stay in his room, but thought better of it. “I will check the kitchen first.”
The two gentlemen said goodbye and departed. Five minutes later, Mr. Hercules was standing in front of Mr. Kassiopiea’s room, knocking. Heard no answer, he pondered, and left.

"Why don't I have a daddy like everyone else, mommy?" The little boy asked.
"You have a daddy, sweetie. But he's not with us."
"Does he not love us?"
"He loves us very much. Very very much ..."
He was hearing mommy's soft voice again. So much had happened today. His heart pained for all the blood shed. He locked his door, and closed all of the windows. He was determined that he would stay inside for the night. Snowflake's innocent naughty smiles flashed in his minds ... Arrr ... Mommy, help me ... He was getting thirsty again ... sooo thirsty ... He went up to the door, locked it again. He would not do it tonight. Her blood was so sweet. He never thought that blood could taste so delicious ... He stood up, and sat down. What was it that just flied past the window? He went to the windows, and opened them. Two giant black wings extended out from his shoulder. He flied out.

Mr. Tacticus looked troubled as he absently ate his porridge. About halfway through it, he pushed it away, cleared his throat, and stood.
"Gentlemen - for I do not beleive we have any ladies among us, after the tragic murder of Ms. Snowflake - as your security co-ordinator, I feel I must report what I have discovered regarding last night's events. Unfortunately, most of it is in terms of negatives.
"Firstly, the cameras did not record anything whatsoever. I spent most of the day wiring them, and they now have full, permanent coverage of all the stairways and entrances into the castle. In addition to taking video, they will sound an alarm in my room upon detecting movement; this would wake me to check, which I would naturally do with great caution.
"The cameras recorded no movement whatsoever last night. The motion trackers recorded nothing, and I ran through the tapes on fast-forward to check; they spotted nothing. Thus, either our mystery friend is invisible to cameras, or he's found a way around them. Either prospect is a rather disturbing one; in the hope that it is simply the latter, I will be installing more cameras in the hope of catching the killer on tape.
"Anyway, that's about all I have to say. We still don't know who the killer is, and it seems quite obvious that we missed at least one of them yesterday. With any luck, we will soon have more concrete evidence as to who it is. Until then, I recommend again going anywhere alone unless it's absolutely necessary. If you can think of any other precautions, by all means, take them."
With that, Tacticus sat again, and began slowly eating the rest of his (now cooling) porridge.

When Mr. Tacticus started talking at the breakfast table, fear swept over Mr. Gunner’s body. He resisted the urge to look up from his porridge as Mr. Tacticus stood up and prattled on about the security cameras and his analysis. Mr. Gunner didn’t know if his suspicions of Mr. Tacticus were clouding his judgment, but the voice of Mr. Tacticus sent shivers through his spine. Mr. Gunner feared for his life.
He decided to glance up from his porridge to look at the other members of the group. ”I must gauge how believable Mr. Tacticus is the others”, Mr. Gunner thought to himself. The other members of the group seemed to be entranced with Mr. Tacticus’ analysis of the security situation. ”What was Mr. Tacticus’ first name anyway?”, Mr. Gunner wondered. ”His real first name can’t be ‘General’, could it? Mr. Gunner laughed when realized his first name was Shogun. ”I guess that doesn’t sound believable either” The growing realization that he stood alone in his suspicion of Mr. Tacticus paralyzed him.
”How is that Mr. Geomodder’s name appeared on my laptop’s screen the previous night? Who could do that? Perhaps I am misjudging Mr. Tacticus” After all, there is no DIRECT evidence of his actions…”, Mr. Gunner concluded to himself as he fingered the deep groove in the kitchen table left from the short sword he had plunged into the table just the day before.
Just then, as Mr. Tacticus turned as he continued talking, something caught Mr. Gunner’s eye… The black turtleneck sweater Mr. Tacticus was wearing was stretched several inches from the neck down the back of the garment. What would cause such a near tear in the black sweater of our normally meticulously attired security expert? The fabric was visibly frayed. Did anyone else notice that? Mr. Gunner wondered to himself.
As Mr. Tacticus sat down, Mr. Gunner spoke up.
"Where is Mr. d'Heresson? Is he not joining us for breakfast?”

"He must be grabbed by one of his aarvadarks, Haha." Smilie's contrived laughter halted abruptedly in the middle, seeing that nobody was laughing with his joke. His lowered his head again, pretending to be eating his porridge. Father Nikolai stood up, "I better check on him."
Nikolai came back down within five minutes. From the look on his face, they all knew what they were fearing had happened again.
"We shouldn't stay in this Island any longer." Mr. Kassiopeia was losing his composer for the first time. "Why hadn't Stena been back yet? I wonder if GeoModder had really done his duty." He suddenly stopped, realizing that the person he just mentioned was not with them any more, and that he was crucified, by him personally.
The atmosphere around the breakfast table was heavy and depressing. The talks were sporatic and broken. Nobody wanted to leave the table. As if by sitting together, they felt that they were safer. However, there was also a hidden untrustness and nervousness flowing around. Sometimes one would stare at another, as if trying to figure out if that person was actually something entirely different.
