Has 1999 been a good harvest for games? Support Apolyton, pre-order Civilization IV

I think so. We've had some great games this year....

Sequels to giant games.

1) Age of Kings
2) System Shock 2
3) Quake 3
4) Jagged alliance 2
5) Simcity 3000
6) Tiberian Sun
7) falcon 4
8) Gabriel Knight 3
9) Indy Jones and Infernal Machine
10) Mechwarrior 3

3 civ products in one year... has this ever happened??

1) SMAC and SMACX
2) CTP
3) Civ Tot

FPS

1) Quake 3
2) Unreal Tournament
3) Aliens Vs Predator
4) Half Life Opposing Force

Not to mention the game that will get game of the year 1999> RollerCoaster Tycoon

Sorry if I missed some other games but I can only remember the games that I was ever considering purchasing.

In fact I think 1999 has probably been one of the greatest years for gaming. Can't wait for 2000 when Diablo 2 and Civ 3 hits.

Support Apolyton, buy GURPS/ Alpha Centauri

I'm not sure, Narck. I saw it and it was no big difference to SC2000.

Got spare money?

Every time I'm in the stores the package is staring at me, and it's pretty much low budget by now.

The box looks nice

You know what. Let me just d/l it first, then I'll see if I want it or not

Full PM-box? Change here!

Nothing this year has matched Starcraft, FF7, and Resident Evil 2.. I spent the entire year playing 1998 games! Finally though, I broke down to the ad campaign and bought C:CTP (what a waste ) or was that out in 98 too? I'm so confused..

Well, Narck, it depends on whether you got sick of SimCity 2000 in the end. SimCity 3000 is basically the same game. Because I'd well and truly finished with 2000 (after the map's covered in arcologies, what's left to do?) I got very bored with 3000 very quickly. The music's quite good, though.

Yeah, what is that saying? It cropped up in a Simpsons episode too. I gather there was some advertising campaign or something, but it doesn't seem to make much sense. What is the story behind the odd quote "Where's the beef?"

During the epic burger wars of the mid 1980's Wendy launched an ad campaign featuring a group of old ladies at the "other" burger places. The burger meat was tiny on a hugg bun. One old lady (Clara Pell, I think) utters the phrase "Where's the beef". The ad then shows the Wendys burger, with meat sticking out of the bun. (Wendy's burger patties are square, but the buns are round)
The phrase entered into American culture, and that is how we got stuck with it.

Tired of ads?

As long as you're mentioning sequels, lets not forget HOMM3.

Yes well I can't remember every single game that got released this year. HOMM3, wasn't that released at the end of 1998? Same with Baldur's Gate right?
