Science and PAL Get a bigger avatar today!

Check out the PAL and FA threads. I posted a letter and my response to Heroic (MOI of PAL) there.

Short version - as we are stuck with such a god awful large army, not nearly enough cities to pay support, and a significant lack of science research, we will probably gain the tech of currancy around turn 108.

If PAL researched it now, along with Lit, they will probably gain it around turn 104.

We will be gaining 4-8 turns by not researching it and letting PAL do so, and we will go that much faster into the next age.

Do a little bit of research and please discuss. One idea I proposed back to PAL is for them to suppliment us with some gold and perhaps we can gain even another turn or two, and go into the next age around turn 102.

Please discuss.

If they are researching so fast and there is nothing/little we can do to help them, then we could always stockpile gold until the next age, and give some/all of that to PAL, if they feel they are contributing everything.

I don't mind - whichever PAL is happier with - supplementing us to get to Currency and the next age quicker, or stopping us researching and we stockpile gold for them/us. It bothers me not as long as they give us their tech and they are content too.

So it would be something like:

(Us)
Currency
New Expensive Free Medieval tech (worth Construction + Currency on its own!)

(Them)
Polytheism
MM
Construction
(Literacy?)

Not so unbalanced, I'd say.

There is an additional concern that we should leave to them to worry about if researching too fast. There will be the barb uprising when they gift the techs to us to advance an Age, and if they are involved in the war they may have difficulties with the Barbs, or at least FP said as much in the last chat.

When we next communicate with them we should mention this and ensure they have sufficient defences in place to counter the barbs. We need to do the same (by placing a unit or two to dispel the FOW West of Apolyton).

Got spare money?

The only way to reasonably solve this problem is for them to feed us gpt. We gain nothing by researching nothing as we are already at 100% tax and using a single scientist to get currency. If we shut down, we'll only get the benefit of that scientist going back to work in the fields.

They can help us get currency faster and then allow us to branch off onto another part of the tech universe (Engineering train) while they go for the other techs ... however, MrWIA's point about barb uprisings is something we really need to take care of.

Tired of ads?

Can PAL research currency or do they need us to do it? Have we received an answer? We can afford to do either 10% sci or 10% lux, but not both. We can also go back to 50-turning currency, but that will take too long.

AN excessly larged army can easily be deployed to prevent barb uprisings in our area.

We won't need too many - one or two west of Apolyton, a few in former-CDG territory, and one NE of Hypnos.

Never hurts, though, to keep a few extra archers and hoplites after the war is over to take out the barbs.

My guess is, given that this C3C, the barbs will just stack all on one tile. It would be to our advantage to allow PAL javelins have a throw at them, if only to get some extra workers out of it.

Put an end to popups!

The behavior of a stack of AI barbs is identical to indivudal AI barbs other than the 1 fortified in the camp. (Actually controlled by an .ini file.)

They will research construction in 3-4 turns. then they start on currency to get us into the next age asap. that will be done in 4 turns. We start on lit now, and we will probably get it in 10 turns (more disbanding necessary, or more cities, or both). Time frame for us is estimated, as we will have lots of growth, shrinkage, new cities, and settler support..... too much to do without a big analysis, and my spreadsheets are 25 turns out of date now.... sorry.

Moved this quote by GK to here, where it belongs.

We are now working on Literature at 30% sci. We will have it in @12 turns, possibly less.

After that, we should be gifted techs by PAL and then jump to the next age, get a free tech, and then split the remaining 2 techs with PAL.
