** Morgan Industries ** Tourist Information ** Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

Welcome to Morgan Touristics Inc., we bring Chiron to you!

This is the place to submit or get information about regions, bases and generally interesting spots! Right now the information will be restricted to Morganite territory only, but as time goes by we may be able to expand our focus...

First of all, here´s the Map of Morgan Industries, MY.2148 (198kB). There you will find the exact locations and names of the bases, rivers and landmarks the Morgan Institute of Geography has mapped until now.

I have also added a proposal on how the country could be divided into provinces. In the following post you will find those provinces (unnamed yet) with their statistics and descriptions, which is supposed to be something like a tourist´s guide...
As you can see, it´s lacking most descriptions, as well as our map lacks many more named landmarks. Those of you who have participated in the ACDG1 will probably remember the great province threads, with lots of pictures and information about every single base and location... I´d love to see similar initiatives here, too, but I understand that due to our centralized gameplay it would serve no other purpose than reviving the roleplay of our faction.

If you can think of any good names for provinces (or landmarks), share them with us! This could also be a contest, with a real prize to win! I think of getting monoliths named after the winners, or something similar... (Mods are also allowed to participate )

Also important, but more work to do, is to write the missing descriptions of the territories and bases of each province. Info can be found at the savegames, the map (above) and the MORGAN INDUSTRIES - History Thread.

I really hope this thread spawns some roleplay and good writing!

Looking forward to your ideas!

- MICHA

code:
The info given here is taken directly from the savegame of MY.2146 and is scaled as follows: one population unit in game --> 10,000 inhabitants one tile in game --> 1 tu (tile unit) I am currently searching the forum for a good way to translate tiles into actual square measures. If anybody has a good idea, I´d appreciate to hear about it... The provinces are sorted by population density.

MORGAN INDUSTRIES (M.Y.2152)

code:
Overall Area: 211 tile units (equalling 13,187,500 km² / 5,094,039 sqm) Fungus Area: 61 tile units (28.9%) Overall Population: 480,000 Average Population Density: 2,275 / tu

[Central Estates]
Area: 17 tile units (3 fungus / 17.6%)
(equalling 1,062,500 km² / 410,420 sqm)
Population: 60,000
Population density: 3,529 / tu
Bases:
• Morgan Industries (capital, pop 30,000)
• Impaler Polymers (pop 30,000)

The oldest, and most developed area of Morgan Industries is also the heartland with the capital. With the Greed River cutting through its center, dividing this province into two parts and offering a wealth of energy and a Monolith on the SE border, the exploitation of these resources was crucial to the success of Morgan Industries in the early years. It is also the most densely populated area of the Morgan territories.

Both cities, the magnificant capital Morgan Industries (also the first founded base) and the only slightly lesser impressive Impaler Polymers are major players in both the economics and academics fields on Planet. The place where the first Network Node on Planet had been installed is a favourite for visiting tourists, apart from the many other displays of success and wealth of Morgan Industries.

[Red Fungus Delta]
Area: 29 tile units (10 fungus / 34.5%)
(equalling 1,812,500 km² / 700,129 sqm)
Population: 110,000
Population density: 3,793 / tu
Bases:
• Red Fungus Resort (capital, pop 30,000)
• Micha Archives (pop 30,000)
• Morgan Collections (pop 30,000)
• Choke on this (pop 20,000)

Originally named for the large amounts of fungus that infest the area, former crews are slowly but surely beating back the repugnant fungus to make way for beautiful forest complete with Xenodeer!

Morgan Collections is a newly founded city complete with the latest in luxury, ranging from the new ScorpioCorpTM XenoPillow 5 Plus to an access to the recently built Planetary Transit System which can ferry Morganites to any one of our fine cities, in luxury of course. Construction of formers is underway to make the coveted forests.

Red Fungus Resort is the first coastal Morgan base. Its name comes from its large ocean side resorts and the large amounts of fungus that still plague the area with occasional mind worms. The local scientist-chefs have made a delicacy from Isle of the Deep, which after undergoing much protein editing has a spicy taste unique to Red Fungus Resort. The ocean fungus makes Red Fungus Resort not suited as a shipping center, losing out to Vander Eudaimonics in recent years.

Micha Archives: Rumor has it that there was a left over colony pod. When asked what to do with it, a VP said "let's stick it some place where there is no other city. Micha Archives was thus born. Originally named Whohabitat, the CNC quickly objected the naming stating that he needed a coastal base instead; So it finally got its present name... Despite its humble beginning and existence, the residents and forming crews have turned this wasteland into a profitable locale, bringing in over 10 energy per turn. Micha Archives shows more than anywhere in the Corporation that the entreprenureal zeal come overcome bad obsticles. In recent years become home to the Micha Cartographics and its extensive collection of cartographic data from our legal explorers, our soldiers in the field in hopes of returning profitable mindworm husks to our observer on the SS Hunter.

• Yoda Soda (pop 30,000)

[Future´s Holding]
Area: 35 tile units (9 fungus / 25.7%)
(equalling 2,187,500 km² / 844,983 sqm)
Population: 110,000
Population density: 3,143 / tu
Bases:
• Chaunk Curry Co. (capital, pop 30,000)
• Whohabitat (pop 30,000)
• Mead Metal (pop 20,000)
• Argi Narnia (pop 30,000)

Mead Metal, a small base built on the banks of the Sweet Leisure River in 2138, provides the best of nature´s beauty without lacking the man-made luxuries no real Morganite would want to miss. Situated in a lush valley, not far from the northern ocean, with the impressive Sherwood Ridge to the south, it is often called the “jewel of the north”; with justification!

For the more aspirationally minded among you, how about a holiday home with our good CEO? Chaunk Curry Co may sound like a manurfacturing centre, but nothing could be further from the truth. Home from home to many of the companies biggest names, CCC has made itself famous for it's easy-going people, picturesque surroundings and, most of all, it's promise to satisfy everyone's desire.

Or perhaps you could rent a rover and pay a visit to the majestic slopes of the Sherwood Ridge. Only two hours south of Mead Metal you can climb the “Virgin´s Peak”, rising 2354 meters (7700 feet) into the blue sky. At this time, the region is more of an insider´s tip, with little tourism and almost no infrastructure outside the bases. So if you´re looking for a place to relax from the boureau, you´ll find your dreams come true in Future´s Holding!

Mount Drogue meets the Buster Ocean here, and where they meet are some of the finest beaches the Corporation Owns. The deep waters make for great waves, making the coast favorite for many surfers whom are fond of deducting for their many hours of surveying potential coastal developments.

The deep waters also provide a natural port. Vander Eudomics is the major shipping ports for trade with the Spartan Federation with an already large 10 EC per anum. A few investors plan to build more bases to turn Eudaimonic Shore Properties into a major builder of ships.

The deep water combined with the 2 of 3 nutrient rich tiles make Vander Eudiamonics the largest producer of seafood in the Corporation.

[Western Capeland]
Area: 31 tile units (10 fungus / 32.3%)
(equalling 1,937,500 km² / 748,413 sqm)

Excellent!

Both suggestions have been added, thanks!

Paramir: If you can find a way to transform your name into a good province name (paramira?) I will add it as well.

As for the scales of a tile unit, I have found several threads about it in the other AC forums here at 'Poly, one of them featuring our jtsisyoda (hehe, he could have said that here )

If we say that earth and Chiron are approximately the same in size, and we base our measurements on overall area, then one tile would equal quite exactly 250km*250km (155miles*155miles).
Do you agree on this scale?
Due to the map's cylinder character, the distances between two points on the map won´t be too realistic when assuming a spherical planet, but at least this way our planet has exactly as much area to settle as earth has, which means we can come up with good statistics about our country and compare them to those of earth

Ok, I have converted all areas into square miles and square kilometres... Well, if we were on earth, we´d be the second largest country on the whole planet

code:
17,075,400 km² Russia (1) 13,187,500 km² Morgan Industries 09,970,610 km² Canada (2) 09,772,614 km² USA (3) 09,572,909 km² China (4) 08,511,965 km² Brazil (5) 07,686,850 km² Australia (6) 03,290,000 km² India (7) 02,766,890 km² Argentinia (8) 02,717,000 km² Kazakstan (9) 02,505,813 km² Sudan (10)

I have also added statistics about fungus coverage (maybe this can be used in the province descriptions...); Note that I did only count those tiles we actually see (plus those the Spartans have given us info about); Since we don´t see our own border, I guess we have much more land area... (Russia, we´ll beat you! )

Updated the stats for M.Y. 2147
We have charted 5 new land tiles, but I need the latest "SCC Hunter" image in order to complete the map. It will now feature map grid, thus exact province borders and a new mountain to the far east.

... waiting for Googlie to come onlline ...

Map updated! Hm, where exactly is our southern borderline? The Spartan´s maps say the southernmost peninsula belongs to the Hive, while our own data shows that very same peninsula as Morganite territory...? Did I miss anything?

I'd add the names of our "local real estate holding companies" on the map as well.

That peninsula in the SE looks like a nice place to put some ocean bases without buying expensive sea colony pods.

I mean states or provinces. As our faction is a giant company and its many subsidiaries. We could say that some of those subsidiaries are real estate holding companies. We could thus give our provinces names like "Heart of Greed Properties", or "White Snow Estates".

Thanks arginine!

Added this to the "Guide". Now all that´s left is finding a name for the Western province and getting a few descriptions. Then we can start on enrichening the work, with an occasional publishing in the MorganLink Magazine

If anyone could propose names for the newly discovered lands of Sparta and Uni?
We could ask Sparta in the embassy how they call that bit we discovered, although I´m not sure whether we want to disclose the fact we´re scouting them...

Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

We could make a request thoughly vague and just for interests sake. Something like:

"Several Morganites are looking for holiday homes, and as part of our service industry, I thought it might be good to look at homes away from Morganic territory. Could you provide us with some background data on some of your territory in a pamphlet style. This is one for a section of our own territory:

[Central Estates]
Area: 17 tile units (3 fungus / 17.6%)
(equalling 1,062,500 km² / 410,420 sqm)
Population: 60,000
Population density: 3,529 / tu
Bases:
• Morgan Industries (capital, pop 30,000)
• Impaler Polymers (pop 30,000)

The oldest, and most developed area of Morgan Industries is also the heartland with the capital. With the Greed River cutting through its center, dividing this province into two parts and offering a wealth of energy: the exploitation of this resource was crucial to the success of Morgan Industries in the early years. It is also the most densely populated area of the Morgan territories.

Both cities, the magnificant capital Morgan Industries (also the first founded base) and the only slightly lesser impressive Impaler Polymers are major players in both the economics and academics fields on Planet. The place where the first facility on Planet had been installed is a favourite for visiting tourists, apart from the many other displays of success and wealth of Morgan Industries.

Something similar for some of our VP's would be apreciated."

Notice that I've slightly changed the text to remove the monolith comment, but left the river comment. We already know that factions other than us have likely started with a river, so that's information they should already know. Also, network node has been changed to the more vague facility. Again, information they should already know.

Full PM-box? Change here!

That´d be great! (Are you sure you want to give them the real base names?)

You know what? First I forgot to turn off base grid, so I had to srap all screenies I´ve taken and start all over again... Now that I´ve finished the map, I notice that I´ve turned on "show flattened terrain", which I didn´t when drawing all the upper layer thingies like borders and city locations...

It seems as if this was not my day

Support Apolyton or Terrorists Win

It's just fine. The next revision in a few years just won't have those problems. I didn't notice/really care about the problems until they were brought up.

Tired of ads?

Hm, I hate having unfinished work laying around ... Fixed the terrain thing, now it should work fine with all the layers...

Note that we expanded our borders to the south, and since parts of these borders haven´t been mapped by our own explorers, I had to assume they were still at the same point they have been in 2145...
