Let me save whenever I want, dammit! Support Apolyton, buy Civilization III: Complete

I've been playing a PC... er... non-orthodox... version of Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb.

The game is ultimately boring, but it has its moments. One thing I cannot stand, though, is the stupid decision to not allow the player to save anywhere on the game. It saves the game automatically at the beginning of a new level; if you make a mistake and die right before you finish the level, then you have to start it all over again! This is one of the most frustrating design decisions that stupid developers insist to implement in PC ports of console games.

Don't you hate it too?

I think there are arguments for both sides. Many times when playing FPS style games I wish you couldn't save after every battle. It makes it too easy at times.

Support Apolyton buy from Amazon

I see no arguments for limiting saves. If you believe saving after every battle makes it too easy, don't do it. That's how I play it. I don't tend to hit the quicksave button each 30 seconds. However - any player should be allowed to if that's how he wants to play. Also, what if I need to go RIGHT NOW? It happens. Then I'd just hit the save button and quickly shut the PC down - which these games don't let you do either.

Yeah...people who argue for set savepoints just have no control.

That doesn't give as much bragging rights though. People will still think of the game as easy despite the challenge you have set yourself.

Help yourself to an AD-FREE life

The same could be applied to only playing a game on easy level rather than insanely difficult.

Could be an option though - make the save ability dependent on difficulty setting.

My point is that some consoles have to implement this limited saving system because of space constraints, something that don't affect PC users. That's why I generally dislike PC ports of console games. The developers always do it in a hurry, without considering PC peculiarities.

Not really. Most people try the insanely difficult even if they predominantly play the easy level. Hardly any people play games where you can save anywhere only saving between levels.
