Well, Monkey have partly taken Trip's advice, and partly followed their own pattern of elastic defence.

Simian Deep is disbanded, with one archer, 'Thwwwt' standing on its tile. The rest has vanished.

Looks like we go to Orang7 while Python go to Mandrill6, Monkey will be expecting this, but at least we've split them. We would be split too though, which they might favour as they could attack one stack without getting hit by the counter from the other stack.

Message sent to Python (see log). We can take our time considering the options - the other side certainly did.

Also, there are barbs in the unsettled peninsula, according to F3.

We can't cut our SP until we get a unit up there - (Workers don't pillage).

Best bet is probably to build a warrior in Badcrumble - otherwise we could use the horse from Sexytune in 3 turns time, but we might not want to be tying up a combat unit.

If we went to Orang89 this turn and Python to Orang77 (destroyed city square), the following turn we could move south to the hill Orang8 while Python go to either Mandrill3 or Orang4. Then we threaten 2 or three cities.

It would mean that if Monkey do their BoG thing they'll hit Python not us - which is better as they have more defenders - and the general forum vote backed this up (saying that monkey should hit CoD).

I am assuming that Monkey will only attack a stack adjacent to a city, so they can heal and enjoy the wall bonus. However, it may be that they chose not to attack last turn because they stood a good chance of being destroyed on the counter attack by the second stack.

If we are split (which we want in a way because it splits the defence) they can attack a stack while the second is unable to reach and counter. The second would get a turn or two of free destruction, though.

Monkey have the advantage of movement, hiding, healing, new units born near the front and the encouragement (if not material support) of the external civs. I don't think we should rule out the pillage possibilities of our cats and horses. This is a tough scrap, and wrecking their economy might stop them producing more units. It could help drive them into barb-mode, though, as Trip suggested - which would at least cap their power.

Now I think about it, Monkey could stick a few NMs on the hill Orang9, so that approach might not work.

Extra Settler Support Apolyton buy from Amazon

There are now two settlers in the war stack. The original, and Frisco-4411 (named after its intended destination - but it endeed up here). Was this by accident or design, and if by accident is it worth trying to send it back or just keep it wit the stack. It might come in handy.

Having though more about it, and considering Modo's thought, it is looking as though the two stacks have to cover each other somehow. Monkey want to attack one, but won't when the other can counter.

Full PM-box? Change here!

Cort,

Sorry for not being around this weekend. I had lots of house guests, and a lot of fun.

It seems I missed a lot, between GS & CoD.

1) SP pillage... we're building a horseman in a city nearby (southwest of Badcrumble). Wait for that and use it to cut the SP.

2) My gut instinct is to move our stack due south, to Orang7.

3) The extra settler was no doubt my fault... but I think having 2 combat settlers is a good thing anyway.

4) Do we whack Twwwwwit with a Horsie or leave it for Python? I say we take care of him.

5) If we move south, Python could move southwest and threaten Mandril.

Alternatively, we could both move our stacks due west, both threatening Mandril (and theoretically Gorilla as well, with our horsemen).

I'm not sure which I prefer. I think Monkey most likely has the bulk of their Numidians in Gorilla right now, waiting to see which way we go. They can reach either Mandril or Orang. If we split, so probably do they. If we go one way, again so do they...

I like the idea of both going west, as it keeps our stacks together. Monkey will have several units in Orang which cannot reach Mandril next turn, and our horses will keep some units in Gorilla too.

I'm playing the turn now and something struck me about the move west.

(thinking out loud) - With our stack at Mandrill6 and Python at Mandrill9, Monkey can hit us with everything they've got from Gorilla9, perhaps even destroying it as they claim. Python can't retaliate against that tile that turn, they can only move adjacent to Gorilla8. The following turn monkey could escape into Orang, but would lose Gorilla and Mandrill.

Oh well, we'll see, It's only a game.

Suffering from ads?

Cort,

I didn't keep a copy of this past turn's save, since I knew you were playing it. In light of MAST's request (see diplo thread), what do you think about loading it back up and taking a look at the situation.

I looked at the old "we have saltpeter!" thread, and it seems that MAST do not have a saltpeter supply. Therefore, it seems unlikely that this new Sunshine city was placed to grap SP. Perhaps it's a prelude to invasion?

Anyway, if you don't have the time or inclination, we can always check next turn.

Any objections to providing a little intel to MAST? I figure they're the weakest civ over there, so there is little harm in it. If LL was asking us for intel, OTOH, I'd be inclined to seek reciprocity.

Yeah, MAST deserve a break - unless they've been helping the Monkeys. I looked and there was no SP, and PM'd OPD about it.

Whilst in the save, I noticed that MOnkey have (1) the prereqs for Invention and (2) an English worker. Hmm...
