Did they ever fix the random generation of civs bug? Inflate your Upload Space

Hello everyone!

I am still playing Civ3 Conquests now and then, but my enjoyment is rather marred by the fact that the old bug where you always start next to American civs no matter what civ you pick seems still to be there in the 1.22 patch.

This bug predates the release of Civ3 Complete so I would be quite surprised to learn that it hasn't been fixed.

Can anyone fill me in? - I haven't been on these boards for months!

Thank you

I am on my third epic game. First one I started next to Americans as well in third game. In my second one I started out next to Mongols and England. However IIRC there were no American civs in that one (I selected civs myself for computer).

Tired of ads?

I think it is not actually that you start out next to the US, but rather you get the same group of civs depending upon civ you use to start.

It is not fixed, but you can preselect the civs you start the game playing. You could turn off culturally linked as see if that changes things.

I feel like I always start games with roughly the same civs over and over again. That's a shame, considering I'm becoming quite angry about the Netherlands always being such a pain in the buttocks.

That's why I select civs myself for the computer. And to ensure randomness, I roll dice to select those civs. I also maintain a list of civs that have been already played and how often. I'm an oddball I know

And you know that that's an excellent idea, considering this weird RNG that gives some magical results during the game but keeps repeating itself during the generation phase.

Amazing that we have to resort to a dieroll to ensure randomness in a computer game....

I'm going to break out the abacus to ensure my quicken balance is correct.

I don't see anything like this when the "Culturally Linked Start" is not selected.

Sad eh? It shows that human ingeniousness will beat the computer anytime. Well, most of the time :-P

That would be very prudent re: the abacus!

punkbass2000 - so to ensure randomness and that you will not always end up next to an American civ, we only have to turn off the culturally linked starting positions?

Got spare money?

I.e.: they removed, to all intents and purposes, culturally linked starting locations in Conquests, unless you happen to always play with a civilization in the North American category.

For no good reason.

I still call that a bug.

Suffering from ads?

I seem to recall that plain vanilla Conquests fresh out of the box doesn't have this bug. It only occurs if you apply any patches.

I sat down and installed Civ3GOTY then C3C and at every patch i started a game with all random opponents. I don't have my notes in front of me, but that's what I recall.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.
