Add a stupid road!!!! Support Apolyton, buy Civilization 2

I found Steam Power, and the AI all just found it too. The problem is there is enough coal for everyone, but not in my territory. The Spanish have one surplus, but they don't have a &*#$ road on it so I can't trade for it. Would it be a good idea to sign a RoP just so I can send in my workers to connect that tile??

And please DON'T say "take it by force." I don't want to do that!!

Browse Apolyton AD-FREE

Yeah, if you're not willing to go take it from them, I would suggest signing a RoP and roading it for them.

Good luck.

The coal has no road and is therefore not attached to their trade network.

Suffering from ads?

Just be sure to not finish the road and fail to make a deal that turn. You could find they traded it to someone else.

Is there room to drop a city of your own to claim it or is totally within their borders and cannot be "stolen" by culture?

And be sure that they have steam power - the AI does not negotiate resources it cannot see. At least that happened to me.

Support Apolyton, pre-order Civilization IV

I would take 2 or 4 armies and as many units as I can muster and fit into my ships. Include 1 settler and 4 workers. If you then drop it all on the BG next to the coal, you can build a city the next turn.

Take 1 army and the workers to the coal to make a road and hold it. Rush a barracks first. Then start a harbor and rush it the turn the road will complete.

Now get the rails going. My work gang will be poised to RR my strongest city and then start connecting.

The Spanish (if that who it is) will not attack the army in the field. This means the landing force will not be touched. It means after you found the city, the work stack will be safe and the attackers cannot use the moutain (if you get to it first).

Once the city is founded the AI will attack, so I would prefer at least one army made of my best defensive units.

After they have tossed the attack force you can elect to take down some cities and force peace, if that is what you want.

If you have knowledge of their army and it is really big, I may rush a wall after the barracks.

Put an end to popups!

justjake....how recent is that map? If you haven't traded maps with the spanish for a while, you could find that they have already connected the coal resource and traded it off to someone else

Why not the non-BG between the mountains?

Won't the Alicante's culture cut off the line to his mainland harbors?
I think he'll HAVE to drop on the BG tile - as you said - AND take Alicante, to link the coal to his mainland.

Let's hope for him there is some easier coal to grab...

You should get the immediately adjacent tiles to the city. You just would not get any expansion of the borders after the temple, until you eliminated their city.

The main reason for the BG tile is that it is not roaded and it is closer. Either is fine, if they can be reached on th same turn.

Where you normally want to preserve BG tiles for production, they are of no interest at this point in the game on another landmass. You will be getting one shield after corruption anyway.

You won't have to spend worker terms (possibly under threat) improving a tile.

I suspect that going with the tile between the mountains puts you at easier access to Palma. I don't like having those mountains next to me as they will make attacking painful.

Hopefully you will have some cannon types to lower hit points.

I think he's saying that one vanished.

It should have popped up somewhere else, though.

Also, he's said a couple of times he doesn't want to fight for the resource.

Personally, I'm almost as averse to paying for a resource as he is to fighting for one, but to each his own.

I do not always see a depleted resource pop back up. I am not sure if they do and failed to notice or they just do not alway get replaced in C3C. Often you get so many msg in a turn, you can follow them all.

I remember they always did in CivIII. Anyway, I am with you, paying for resources is not a good thing in the main. It helps my foes way to much.

Sooner or later I will have to fight them, so why not do it for a resource?

I forget the level for this game, but if it is very high, you could end up with culture and UN problems, not to mention more resource shortages. Those could lead to a loss as the AI now has lots of land and will just be making troops endlessly.

Anyway I feel one must always take over their own landmass. If for no other reason than to prevent any sneak attacks from doing big damage before it can be stopped.

I want to force them to have to invade, even at the highest elvels you can defend those.

If you can buy maps off people, try that - it will be cheap for areas you already know, and it will update terrain improvements and changes of resources etc. That way if any more resources have appeared you will spot them.

Also, to tell if that Coal (assuming it isn't the one that disappeared) is roaded already, you can right-click and see what the trade etc there is. Even if you can't see an improvement like a road, you can still see the improvement's effect on the total trade/shields/food.

Sneaky, huh?
