I think we should formally lay the current game to rest before we begin a new one. I liked the idea of the "better ball" continuation, although I would suggest we start from the 1896 save.
I think the current malaise is due to the diminishing number of active participants, rather than the state of the current game. I don't think a new game would help with that problem.
