Danish television doesn't focus all that much on basketball, reporting only about the finals. This time, however, it was featured on both major channels.

Artest should be fined millions, have his contract terminated for the rest of the season, and should be barred from the NBA for life. He was nothing but a ***** (and his history shows that its something in his character.) Major sports don't need that.

I hope he gets sued by the fans he slugged.

The sociopathic thug Artest (who attacked the wrong fan, BTW) should get a 20-game suspension, and a fine in the 100's of thousands. Wallace, O'Neal, and Jackson should get 10-game suspensions and fines in the tens of thousand.

I hope the league sends the strongest message yet here about thuggery and bad sportsmanship in general.

No, probably not, but I can't say. Someone shoves you as hard as they can, you do your best to let it go, then you get hit with a beer (not to mention you've been enduring countless verbal provocations)... I would have been pretty pissed and probably would have gone after someone.

And as for those fans that stepped on to the court and tried to start ****, I think they got what they deserved.

I'm not trying to excuse Artest. I'm just saying I can understand why he did what he did, and I don't think we need some outrageous punishment for it. Give him a night in jail and a fine or something. That's what they do for bar fights. Then the league can suspend players for a few games. I'd say give Artest and Jackson 10 each. Ben Wallace gets 7 or so and Jermaine Oneal gets a couple.

Why are the NBA players getting a pass legally? Those NBA players who attacked the fans should be arrested/prosecuted, just like anyone else who tries such an attack.

Shi..according to the internet, authorities have seized tapes and have turned over to the District Attorney's office.

As a former Federal and State/Military Police Officer, the prudent thing to do in a "high profile case" such as this unnecessary event is to have ducks in a row.

Would the charges be a public affray? Inciting a riot? Misdemeanor assault? Aggravated assault?

charges depend upon state..but the guilty will be charged..soon..

The NBA was simply imposing thier own punishment/reaction to the ugly incident

basketball is fast approaching soccer as an international sport... it's already like the international sport in China thanks to Nike building courts all over the country. it requires a bit more infrastructure (a basket) to play compared to soccer but still can be played cheaply by anyone anywhere... hockey, on the other hand, requires a skating rink and a slew of equipment.

face it, asher... hockey is a dying sport. basketball has surpassed it.

Hockey can die everywhere else (it would be cool, actually). Canada would see more of the best players locally, because it will never die here.

Nobody cares about Basketball or Baseball up here. As it should be.

Hockey remains the best team sport to watch, and I couldn't care if less Americans or Greeks of Chinese cared about it.

Let's face it, basketball is all about tall people running back and forth for four quarters, repeatedly putting baskets in nets rhythmically into figures most of its fans can't even count to. Single baskets don't even count until the dying seconds of the game -- the entire game feels like you're just buying time til the last quarter, or the last minute of play.

There's less strategy involved. In fact, I'm pretty sure there's the least amount of strategy in basketball than any other mainstream professional sport.

It's simply a boring game with too much scoring and too little strategy.

Basketball is the worst game Canadians have invented.

an owner of a business in Buffalo employed a young stock boy. One day the youngman was overheard saying to a buddy.."Only two things come out of Canada...WHORES & HOCKEY PLAYERS to which each had a hearty laugh until the steamed boss walked in gritting his teeth stating "MY WIFE is from Canada" to which the young stock boy replied with as not as much as a moments pause,"Really, which team does she play for sir?"

Asher, if you actually played sports you would understand . Basketball is unquestionably the best sport to play, and IMO the best sport to watch also (though arguments can be made for baseball and football, certainly more people watch football). Hockey doesn't even count and soccer is boring as hell.

I played baseball for 4 and soccer for 8 years, and had a basketball hoop in my backyard in California.

Hockey is great to watch, Football is good to watch, Soccer is barely decent to watch.

Basketball and Baseball and Golf are terrible, terrible, sports to watch. Utterly boring.

Basketball: Too much scoring, too little strategy
Baseball: WAY too much downtime, too little action, too many statistics
Golf: It's GOLF. Period.

i played hockey,soccer and basketball, lettered in all three in school in the mid 70's..

each has a unique difference,,although hockey has the added pleasure of doing it all on ice..
