New City Thread Enter the AD-FREE zone

This is the place to discuss your ideas for new cities. As MOI, I will shortly be posting my recomendations. No vote, as the consuls will simply choose. However, all imput is very important to the consuls and myself, and we ask all who visit to post an opinion, including those who lurk.

We have 3 setters in the build queues now, and all three will be ready in the next 1-2 turns.

2 more settlers will be comming out in the next 5 turns plus or minus, particularly as we are in our golden age, and have the production capacity, and food.

I look forward to reading what you all think.

My recomendations:

1) Settler dark blue first (6,6,3 of Stable). It has floodplains for growth, hills for production, and will not be terrably corrupt.

2) Next, settle red. It will not be a great city, except for the fact that it is so close to poly it will have hardly any corruption. As it is also so close, we don't have to move our workers around and waste time moving, they can do improvements right in the area.

3) Purple. It is the location of the old CDG capitol. Why so far away - simple, it will gain us 2 beavers. Both PAL and ourselves can use the lux in a big way. It will also be so corrupt, that by starting on a courthouse now in our GA, it may be complete in a time that will make this city semi-usefull.

4) Magenta. It will solidify our 2 cow island. We will need a galley, and we better make darn tutin sure we bring a hoplite (or 2) with us. The cows will let this city grow fast, allowing it to produce its own worker (or 2) and build up this island.

5) Green. Same reasons as red, above. The tile overlap around Poly will get to be severe, but it is well worth it to keep corruption low. Also, at size 6, our cities will be able to funcion extremely well.

They're still around somewhere, but PAL hopes they can trap them and kill them soon.

GK, I like the settler list, but cpould the next settler go to 1 of yellow. It could build a granary very quikly, and start pumping workers to add to cities or settlers, which every we need most, at a 2 or 4 turn rate respectively. We really need the food to come up to speed ASAP.

I like dark blue as it will be a good growth city, but I STRONGLY urge that we send out a settler and hoplite to purple now. Our cities cannot grow past size 4 without another lux, and we're in our GA ... this is our best chance to grow and we're stiffling our growth with taxmen to avoid unhappiness.

If we get those furs and then connect to PAL and get some silks, we'll have happy cities up to size 6, and we'll have much more productive cities to best utilize our GA production bonuses that are getting wasted every turn.

The settler from naked aphrodite may settle the location with the furs.

I don't like too close placed cities so I don't like the red location. On the other hand, if we will disband Apolyton, it seems like a good site.

I think we should get the two islands but this should not be our priority. This may be discussed with PAL and the islands may get a part of the border negotiations.

The blue location is fine and I like the black one too - it connects our cities and we get one more coastal city.

Help yourself to an AD-FREE life

I like all locations, but build them in proper order:

1. All river sites first

2. Then the land sites on our own landmass

3. The cities on the small landmass.

We need names for our new cities. We'll found one next turn, and 2 the turn after.

Beavertown, Salute to CDG (after all, they do still survive), and GK's Screwup.

That purple site would be a good location for "Salute to CDG". I think this is CDG's former capital?

That dark green site on tundra in the SE might be a good location for "GK's Screwup" given that it won't be producing many shields at all. An alternative is that brown desert city spot on the small landmass for a similar reason.

I'm not seeing an approtive city site for "Beavertown"; can't find any furs unless its covered by units.

There does appear to be a good city site for a "Cowtown" , that pink site on the small landmass near cows.

On that red location, yup, that's the one location I wouldn't found a city that's listed. I sugest Appolyton 7-7-7-7 [desert north of wine] instead.

Joncnunn's suggestion is a good one for a future city site, but does anyone else feel that we SHOULD NOT build at the red site listed on the map?

I would prefer a location 9 of the red spot, as it will take over Poly's domain after we disband it.

Tired of ads?

I'd prefer post abandoning of Appolyton to found "Not Appolyton" in the same tile that Appolyton was in. It's a great location.

I like the actual RED site because it is usefull now, has lots of water for the gold, and after Poly is disbanded - which is something I think we need to seriously discuss and consider again - it could be refounded.

Right now, with the border discussion and so forth, I am leaning towards NOT disbanding Poly for a long time. If we can get the FP locaiton I am asking for, we will have one hell of a core group of cities.
