2070 BC
Salamanca prepares to Settle the lands north towards Lake Itcheycott.
2030 BC
1990 BC
1950 BC
Salamanca has brought disfavor from the Mighty River. Great floods bring disease to Salamanca. Its population decreases to 4. As the waters race through the Mighty River a new youth sport comes into being - barrel riding. The elders fear that this only angers the Mighty River and is banned near Salamanca.
1910 BC
1870 BC
Salamanca continues to feel the wrath of the Mighty River. Our people continue to die. Salamanca dwindles to size 3. A local hero of sorts finds his home near Niagara Falls. Running Water is the undisputed barrel riding champion and goes over Niagara Falls.
1830 BC
The Mighty River returns to it banks. Salamanca begins to grow again. Plans continue for the settlement of Lake Itcheycott. In Niagara Falls, barrel riding is officially banned when 2 kids go missing after emulating Running Water's over The Falls stunt. Sentenced to community service, the Warrior - Running Water leaves his new bride, Dancing Flower, with child and boards the I.S. Barrel Rider. It will be a long journey across the Great Water in search of lands without floods, and bogus anti-barrel riding rules.
1790 BC
So much for a long journey. New Land is discovered just over the horizon to the south east.
1750 BC
The wise Sits-Long-On-Thunder-Mug discovers writing. Post cards are sent from Running Water to friends and family.
"Dancing Flower, New Land is bewtiful... wish yoo wear hear. -Running Water"
Sits-Long-On-Thunder-Mug begins to study the art of thought itself, in search of something he calls Philosophy and sends a postcard.
"Look what I discovered! It's called writing. Never mind. You probably can't read this. (Note to self: discover Literacy.) I will be gone for a while longer while I research Philosophy. It's very complicated. One day I'll be able to say things like, 'I think, therefore I am.' and explain what that means.
Wish you were here.
Sits-Long-On-Thunder-Mug"
1725 BC
1700 BC
Lake Itcheycott is founded.
1675 BC
The borders of another people are seen for the first time on New Land by the crew of the I.S. Barrel Rider.
"My beloved Dancing Flower,
These Newlanders call themselves Korean. We have not seen any of the sitys of Korea but an emisaree of Wang Kon met us at the shore. The Newlanders um Koreans claim to have many sitys, and have diskuvered much that Sits-Long-On-Thunder-Mug has not yet diskuvered. I showed them the skill of post card Writing, while they taught us the skills of Ceremonial Burial and Masonry. There a ferendley and wonderful peeple. They were most impressed with my barrell ridding.
wish yoo wear hear.
Running Water"
Poorly spelled post cards begin to circulate around Korea, and many children clinging to barrels are washed down stream.
1650 BC
1625 BC
1600 BC
A worker stumbles upon the Chinook tribe (hut at Nigarra Falls 4777) They give us 50 gold to go away!
At the southern tip of New Land, Warrior - Running Water disembarks and is met by hostile Newlanders.
1575 BC
"Dancing Flower, I left the I.S. Barrel Rider to find some narly streams to do some wicked barrol ridding. The mountains nearby looked promising. But NO! These Newlanders were not anywhere near as kulchered as the Koreans. They ataked me as soon as I set foot on New Land. Most unkool. I fought bravelee and fear that I killed one of there warriors. Dude! The party didn't hav to go that way. When I saw more coming my way I headed back for the ship. Later I found out I was injured. Dont wery about me. Just a flesh wund. I wil be fin.
wish yoo wear hear.
Running Water"
Warrior - Running Water was badly injured and would never leave the I.S. Barrel Rider.
1550 BC
The I.S. Barrel Rider along with Warrior - Running Water were lost to a barbarian attack off the southern tip of New Land.
1525 BC
1500 BC
1475 BC
Salamanca is back to size 6 and continues to grow. What the Mighty River takes, the Mighty River gives.
Searching Eagle is moving north east along the northern coast.
Desert Walker, set out from Lake Itcheycott and wanders the eastern coast.
One Who Faces East looks across the Great Water high upon a hill.
Little One Whose Ship Has Sailed continues to wait for his father Running Water in Niagara Falls.
Years later the boards from a lost ship wash ashore. On it is scratched...
"Dearest Dancing Flower,
I don't know if you'll ever read this. These Newlanders are a fierce and mean people. They show no interest in sport or hardy parties. Our great ship, the I.S. Barrel Rider, was attacked today. We fought hard but I fear that we will not make it back to land. The water is already coming into the hold. Tell our son how proud I am of him. Dude, mean people suck!
Wish I was there.
Running Water."
It is a sad end to a daring journey. Not only because of the loss of life, but also because Running Water appears to have finally mastered writing.

Pink people?
Yes the mean Newlanders are barbs. Mean people suck!
Screenies. Um. I could post the final screenie but that's all I've got. It wasn't until reading some other PBEMs and Successions that I realized how important screenies were to you. Next time - I promise - more screenies than you'd ever want. Maybe even a screenie movie.
Sorry.
Glad that you liked the read.

yes. Pink Floyd. Um no. We have yet to discover psychedelic rock. It's just a stupid thing that you end a post card with.

1475BC
Change Salamanca build from temple to settler with no shield lost. I want to pump out nothing but settlers. Maximized research on Philosophy, I may have it in my 20 turns.
1450
Settler built in Salamanca with more to come.
1425
Barb Camp attacked, and won (+25g). Settler built in Niagara, switch to curragh.
1400
Persian warrior spotted on eastern continent. Whoever put that warrior on the hill was smart and it paid off. Persia does not have Writing, but does have BW, WC, and Wheel. I don't need any of these techs (although I'm curious about the Wheel), so I will hold off on trading.
1375
1350
Lost warrior to Barb horseman.
1325
Trade Writing for Wheel+9g. I should have traded in 1400BC; Writing is worth a little less, now. Unfortunately, we have no horses on our island
1300
Build Jumping Fish
1275
1250
Curragh in Niagara, build another (probably should change this).
1225
1200
Whoops, I let Niagara fall into Anarchy.
1175
Built Crapping Cow. Damn, fortified warrior in Crapping Cow was defeated by a Barb. warrior. There was also a barb. horseman in the area, so we lost approx. 110g. I knew there were barbs hanging around, so I should have had a 2nd warrior. Oh well, so it goes.
1150
1125
Built Plainview (I think it was 1125(?)
1100
Contacted Spain. So far, no one has Philosophy
1075
1050
1025
1000
Discovered Philosophy. I took Mapmaking as the free tech. Mapmaking was more valuable than CoL, so I took a chance. The curragh has spotted a dark green civ (only the border), so I did not make any tech. deals. The next player can contact the new civ. and deal with all known civs.
Overall, I expanded our empire (3 cites, built 5 settlers), built a few worker (3 or 4), which is good. On the down side, I lost 1/4 of our treasury to the bards, and let Niagara fall into Anarchy, twice. So it goes.
