Game Manuals Increase the size of your Attachments

I realise that Real Gamers don't read stinkin' manuals, but bear with me

I would like to know your experience with game manuals. Some companies provide you with everything you need to know, while some others stuff two pieces of toilet paper in the box and call that a manual.

The SMAC manual is probably the best I have in the last few years. Previously some Microprose games, such as MoO, came with thick tomes while some others were somewhat wanting.

SSG (Warlords series) and SSI (Panzer General series) produce good manuals. EA, on the other hand, gives you toilet paper if my experience with Shogun is indicative.

I don't like companies withholding information from game manuals so that they can make a quick buck with the "strategy guides."

I agree that SMAC had a great manual! You know who has GREAT manuals? Interplay.. especially their roleplaying division (Black Isle and Bioware). Thick, and mostly spiral bound manuals! Good stuff!

Yeah! Urban Ranger definitely better than EA but other hard core Shogun fans know better.

Imran
I used to spend 20~30 minutes to read CivII and SMAC manuals if I got bored. Axis & Allies manual took me only 2 minutes!!(quite self explanatory...)

The manuals for 3do's M&M and HOMM series are quite good.

Mouse:

I got the Millenium edition, and 3DO put all the manuals in digital format. Ugh. I guess that is far cheaper than providing 3 printed documents but it's such a bother. Hardly can read the darn things during the game.

I like the manuals that come with games. They make great doorstops, and are excellent for propping up wonky tables...

Browse Apolyton AD-FREE

I still have all the manuals from all the games still in my possession, and I agree: The SMAC manual is very good, and Interplay does a good job on their manuals. Interplay even went so far as to reprint all the manuals in their Ultimate RPG collection, instead of leaving them on disk as so many other companies would do.

Civ had a great manual, but Civ2 gets points deducted for lack of a Wonder list.

Imho, there is nothing more irritating than playing a game with a lot of different military units, only to find no abilities/strength chart in the freakin' manual. C:CTP did this, which didn't help my enjoyment of the game.
