No, it's often not, actually. It's quickly ridiculed.

That's just not possible with my schedule anymore. Time at home able to play: 1-3 hours.
Minus PBEM's, maybe a half hour-2 hours. So in 8 months I might have one example game ready. Moreso, I wouldn't even be playing for FUN. Hence there is no point to it.
quote: [Edit, after your edit: Thanks for the examples. However, you have to agree that Feudalism is considered at best a niche government by most players. Even you admitted that you wouldn't try it without a Religious civ] |
That was in the early parts of my testing. It's since become a personal preference along with a second govt change despite civ traits. And, IIRC, the second Govt change is a goal of AU mod?
Yes, most players consider it a niche. Many also consider it means you are confined to not building aquaducts and keeping cities small too, and few want to do a second govt change.
What does monarchy have over Feudalism?
No WW
Cash Rush
Support in larger cities.
WW never stopped me from oscillating wars in PTW, it sure as hell isn't going to when you give me MP's with Feudalism.
Without a cash bonus, I typically don't find much use for cash rush under Monarchy except on maps with allot of cash bonii anyway. That cash is needed for things such as research and upgrades more than rushing the odd improvement here or there. Poprushing, however, can be quite effective to a warmongering player, as you are attempting to make Feudalism into. Nothing like having a temple in that conquered city 2 turns after taking it.
That leaves the support issue. This is why most players think they need to keep things small. That is not the case as you can see in my previous save.
So, in the late game, yes Monarchy is better. During Medieval, and planning on a second govt change, they are equal in stock version.

Wellll... lemme tell ya 'bout where I am in the late game, right now: Managing a 500+ unit IC invasion in 1914AD, about to declare war and land my various forces, is a major PITA!! (oh, for chrissakes would I love the group commands at the top of the right-click menu as opposed to the bottom ) Just getting UP the right-click menu for the primary attack stack takes about 12 seconds!!
Not that I'm complaining. Actually, having brought it all together and 'dangling the sword', as it were, I'm gonna take a break for a couple of days, and Amy and I are going to visit our best friends.
Mayhem to commence upon my return. Christmas cheer and all that.
EDIT: Off to watch 'Troy', which just came out on DVD... satisfying my ancient history jones.
Merry Christmas to one and all, except those barbarian Celts!!!

Ok, I need to pull a Theseus (that's endearment, by the way) and report on my game here instead of a DAR thread because I have been playing a lot but do not have the time or screenshot capability to write up a DAR.
I believe I'm in the fifteenth century, and I'm almost finished researching the entire tech tree. Oh my is it taking forever! I'm still 4-5 techs ahead of the AI, and will probably stop tech for gpt deals very soon so that they do not get some of the Modern era toys, making my endgame Fascist conquest a bit easier (specifically, I do not want them to get either Modern Armor or nukes, at least in large quantities).
I have about 150 Tanks ready to be upgraded, and a smattering of all the other types of Modern era military goodies. Since this is probably the last Conquests I will play to the Modern era (reason: 40-hour games!), I wanted try a bit of everything at least once.
Not much to report on Fascism yet as I'm still in Republic.
A great scenario indeed; I am enjoyed it immensely, despite the heavy time requirements.
