We have lost one battle and we have won one, too.
-- Our Scout Patrol survived attack by Alien Mindworms near Paramiria
-- Our Defence Attorney has been destroyed by a Spartan probe team (0-1-2) at Vander Eudaimonics
All Drone Riots have ended, Morgan Industries entered a Golden Age.
We have researched Adaptive Economics. Our next techs may be:
-- Doctrine: Initiative (Cruiser, MCC, Naval Yards, Amphibious Pods)
-- Polymorphic Software (Heavy Artillery)
-- Social Psych (Recreation Commons)
-- Field Modulation (Resonance-3-Armor)
Spartans sent us the Peacekeeper Commlink. I have examined our options there:
*Lal demands Industrial Economics. If we decline, he won´t talk to us anymore, meaning no treaty and no tech exchange.
-- He won´t pay anything for IndEco, neither 25ec nor Applied Physics
*When he gets IndEco, we can talk him into a treaty:
-- Either for Adaptive Economics
-- Or for 50 ec
*Once we have a treaty, he offers Applied Physics for 100 ec, which we don´t have
*He has no commlinks to trade for
*He is unwilling to enter a pact of brotherhood, no matter what we offer
*If we gift Adaptive Economics to him (after buying treaty for 50ec):
-- He will then trade Applied Physics for our Progenitor Psych
-- He still won´t enter a pact of brotherhood
We now gain 10 energy from commerce with Sparta and 7 energy from commerce with Peacekeepers.
NOTE:
The Fungus at the chokepoint will be removed this turn, but only AFTER the colony pod receives its orders. So remember to let it WAIT instead of hitting space (which I did)...

Thanks, Mead.
I see no harm in giving Lal Ind Econ. Everybody vote for what to give for a treaty-- Adap Econ or 50 ec? I vote Adap Econ, since it doesn't really cost us anything directly. There's a hidden cost, in putting it out there for others to steal, but they'll have to work for it, plus it's not a military tech. I don't see a need to give up two techs for App Phys at this point. We need to work a deal with Sparta for HEC, to skip over App Phys for a while.
Since Chaunk said he'll be gone for 10-12 days, I'll extend my turnplaying tenure until he gets back, if the Board approves.

I would like to find out how things are between Lal and Zak. In particular, if declaring war on Zak (to steal tech) would effect our commerce.
I'd like to keep Adapt. Eco in our hands, for with I.I., P.E. can be researched permitting construction of the A.V. Sparta knows we want it.
I thought that Sparta would have traded around Ind. Eco.. Let the UN boys have it. 50 EC will be plenty payment to get commerce.

In light of the Spartan's infiltration, lets get laser tech if possible with only money, even if delaying the treaty for a while. Throw down a few cities on the Spartan facing coast and start cranking out ships. Spartan ships with HE Chem would be more expensive, but since the Spartan cities don't seem to be coastal we might be able to win through numbers.

YES! WE HAVE HE LASERS! We can make a moderately sized navy to keep a Spartan invasion force from reaching our shores.
If we don't talk to the PKs, will our ability to talk with them in the future be effected? If we can wait a few turns, we'll have money to bribe them with. I would like to keep our hands on adapt. eco. if possible. The Spartans have Ind. Eco, so we can give it away.

Wow
There's a lot happening.
I thought we were going with the Treaty with PK.
Please see my Posts in the Spartan Diplomacy Thread.
It is good that we now have laser tech. This should make us less vulnerable.
Based upon the change in our relations wih the PK and our gain of lasers does anyone want us to modify our stance to the Spartans?

Someone please re-test all the PK diplomacy with this mid-turn save. The reason is that I popped a sea pod, trying to finish Half an SP on Wheels, but instead got App Phys. (We're starting a laser foil at Mussels.) I haven't contacted the PK's at all.
There's a worm at the southwest part of our continent, so I switched ZZT to a scout to take care of it.
I named a new city Argi Narnia, and another one Choke On This (at the chokepoint, obviously). |
I downloaded and looked at the mid turn save.
The only question I have is:
Why don't we move the Probe from Impaler Poly to Vander Eud to cover Vander Eud until a new defensive probe gets stationed in Vander Eud from Morgan Vul?
Other than that, I see no technical comments. I hope our trans foil does OK and wonder if our NE probe foil in the fungus can be spotted.
I look in wonder at the Hive Impact unit.

Another Thought
Should we have CCC make a 2-1-2 Rover vs. the 1-2-2 that it is currently making?

Googlie PM'd this to me.

RE: What's Happening
I've just posted your message (from the Embassy) in our Forum, together with my suggested reply.
With the benefit of hindsight, we'd have been better off infiltrating at Red Fungus Resort - then you'd never have known (but we believed that you would have probe defenders in all your coastal bases)
We'll prolly offer reparations (we calcuklate them at 52 ec's) but I can't see the Junta agreeing to parallel infiltration. (If one of your 'Gators had found a Sparta base without a probe defender, you'd have infiltrated us without our knowing, and tell me honestly - would you have asked permission in advance? Would you have told us of your success? Would you have then allowed us to probe you? I doubt it)
I can prolly convince the Junta to support a Morgan run for Governorship (you and Yang would now be the 2 candidates, as you have overtaken Lal) after Yang gets all the commlinks.
We'd like to stay friends and trading partners. I think we can agree not to stealtech or show hostile intent for the duration of our current treaty - but Morgan assisting us to get the CDF would be huge for future good relations between us (We see the Hive as being a major threat in this game. The Gaians are pooh-poohing our fears, but they don't share the long border with Yang that we do, and their victories have been with a marauding mindworm against Hive colony pods. (They might change their tune when those legions of Impact rovers call on the nearest Gaian base). So getting perimeter defenses up and running for us is crucial.
I still think that we can - together - control this game so that the outcome rests with just our two competing philosophies - and it'd make a fine endgame with Morgan going for a transcendence or an economic victory while we try to go the world domination or supreme leader route (with maybe a sniffing chance at transcendence).
But that's just my opinion. There are others who believe that a Gaian-Sparta axis makes more sense, while yet a third believes that we should change to POLICE and Pact with the devil.
Anyway, the Junta will be discussing events and we'll get back formally thru the Embassy, but I'm hoping that we can get to "business as usual" with the only difference being that we have you infiltrated for a few turns before you get infiltration on us.

I posted a copy of this this in the Spartan Diplomacy thread, but also wanted a copy here so the Turnplayer could easily see it.

I don't think getting lasers really changes relations with Sparta.
We should be able to contact the PK's later without a problem, if we choose that route. This choice of Ind Econ and Adap Econ for a treaty, or waiting... this is key, so speak up, everybody.
Personally, I want to hand over the techs right away. The sooner we get the trade income, the better. We need money to rush defenders and formers. The PK's haven't gotten Ind Econ from Sparta-- maybe because they're not on the best terms, so maybe they'd have trouble trading for Adap Econ. The human teams might not have infiltration on the PK's, so they wouldn't necessarily know they could get that tech from the PK's.
We have a lot going on, including clarifying the Sparta relations, so I'll wait to finish out the turn until a few hours before the deadline.

There is a lot of hurt on our side and not much in the way of trust.
The plan you offer may go a long way towards healing wounded feelings.
As I understand it, you offer to compensate 52 ECs for the lost probe (we would withold these funds from the current and future payments until the loss is made up), promise to take no action military or probe against or harmful to the Corporation until at least 2161, and support (vote for) Morgan in its run for Governorship.
If this is what you intend then please post it in the embassy.

I thought we were going for a treaty with the PK.
I vote trade the techs and get the treaty. I want the additional commerce income for cash and tech now not later.

So infiltration is worth more than the probe we lost. Perhaps we should pursue punitive damages in addition to compensatory damages. Perhaps votes for the governorship would suffice. |
Googlie indicated that they were considering that.
I await confirmation of his offer in the embassy.

HE Lasers would let us make a navy that could significantly hinder a Spartan Invasion since the Spartans only have synth armor. I think that us not being at the Spartan's mercy is very big if the Spartans. I would expect a Spartan invasion to be
Since our factions never talked about infiltration, we could just let this slide, provided we infiltrate the Spartans shortly. We could delay this turn's payment for next turn if we are concerned about what the Federation will do.
I would agree to trading adapt eco if we were going to go right for P.E., we haven't decided which tech we are going for next. The PKs would give us just 7 energy a turn. I'd like to use cash if possible and we will have more next turn.
Since the Spartans have already infiltrated us and the other humans probably don't have doc: flex yet, I think we can cut down on our probe defenses for now. I would be more concerned about getting a few foils between us and Sparta for observation at the minimum (laser synth foils). Yes I know we don't have a support city, but Vander Eudianomics could be made one.
