Something really expensive, so that when he grows up, he can sell it to start his business empire, make a huge profit and help save humanity by funding the Unity project.

So... how's about a Rembrandt or something?

They need to have a SMAC convention (a la Star Trek) so we can see people dressing up like their favorite characters.

That way I can have my picutre taken with a some kid dressed as Morgan.....only covered in acne, morbidly obese, and white.

Along the same line, If done by the right people, a SMAC tv show or anime series would be awesome!

yeah, that would be a cool birthday gift, the setup of an AC TV series!
Season 1: The launch and travel of the UNS unity to Chiron, covering all its trouble underway and the ending of the season would be the launching of the escape pods to Planet surface.
Season 2: First few years beyond planetfall, first ontact with native life forms. Just primitive skirmishes between several factions.
Season 3: Colonisation of the ocean and launch of first sattelites. First major wars between factions.
Season 4: Arrival of the progenitors and the war they bring with them.
Season 5: Humans transcend/Aliens call home fleet (whichever is more compelling for user view);end of series

Or someting like that. Seems cool to me

Seems cool to me too. But how on earth are you gonna do it? Who's going to be lead character(s)? The faction leaders? They just sit around in their HQ all day, which won't make for much action. A couple of hitherto anonymous soldiers? Then it'd almost look like just another war series. A few Talents from different factions? Then how are you going to get them to interact with each other?

All of the above? Then the series might get a bit longer than five seasons. Not that I'd be complaining, of course.

There was a thread nearly a year ago on this and people actually submitted suggestions of whom should play whom. I tried to search for it but could not find it.

Now that you mention it, I can remember that thread too, I guess it moved to the achives.

I don't think faction leaders have to sit in their HQ. Captain Picard is not sitting in his ready-room for the entire star-trek series for example, he too goes on away-missions.

I have to agree with you, that you would find certain faction leaders more at their desk (i.e. Morgan) and some (Santiago) more in the field, but anything would be possible, even Morgan on an away mission (to the Ruins maybe).

But then again, the series would be a mix between Starship troopers (as they battle huge boils of mindworms with their flame throwers) and a Sci-Fi movie of different spiecies/factions battling themselves (as Babylon 5 for instance).

But nonetheless, if a producer would take this in production I would not complain (probably apply for a role as figurant so i can be part of it )

Bad example. Captain Picard was a... well, a captain in command of a ship. Ships, by their very nature, go to all kinds of places where strange and exciting things might happen.
Maybe a better comparison would've been DS9.

Hmm. Perhaps. But what if Santiago was at war with Morgan? Then you'd have her walking around the Command Nexus pointing at little black spots on holographic maps and whatnot. That's not interesting. The way to make that interesting is to transform those dots in actual soldiers with a personality and their own dramatic plot-line. And, of course, more soldiers for those soldiers to interact with.
And if you want to do that kind of thing for *every* Faction, the cast list might get a bit too huge. Unless you focus on one faction as the "main character faction" (so to speak).

Morgan would be played by Morgan Freeman of course. There is no disputing this.

Yang would be played by...- no idea. I can't think of any chinese star old enough to pull it off.

Zak would be played by Anonthy Hopkins.

Nicole Kidman would play Dierdre.

your example of Santiago just walking around the command nexus is very flawed. if ANY faction leader were to be out on the frontlines leading her troops personally, it would be Santiago. Havent you read Centauri Dawn?

There have been at least three "who would play whom in the SMAC movies" threads here over the years. Too bad they're gone, some of them were pretty good.

Some of my nominations:

Sven - Brad Pitt

Domai - Gary Oldman

Miriam - Cate Blanchett

Yang - Chow Yun Fat (the guy from Crouching Tiger)

Nope. I'm not big on internet buying and in any case, I've heard that book 2 of that series has the Hive working together with the Gaians (WTF?), so I'm not taking it as completely canon.
Anyway, having the commander of the entire faction and not just the military forces right up there on the front lines is just damn *stupid* (even though with the Spartans, the difference between the faction and the army may be small). If Santiago dies (and dying is a very regular occurance on the front lines) the Spartan Federation will probably go down with her. I can't believe that even that right-wing loonie would endanger everything she's worked so hard for just to be close to the killing or to lead a small fraction of her entire military into battle.

In fiction, to improve the story, hero shielding happens. It doesn't have to be entirely plausible, but it avoids the problem of having main characters either repeatedly die or be in uninteresting places.

In the SMAC world, the Spartans lose. At some point Santiago would be on the front lines anyway in a desperate attempt to improve morale even further.

Except in good fiction...

Yea there is. I think Morgan Freeman is a horrible choice.... to old and weathered looking. Think Richard Brooks (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1444462/). Young and actually looks likes the image in the game.

Anonthy Hopkins is not a bad choice, but I think I'd like to see David Carradine in the role.

To be honest I think the majority of the cast would need to be unknow, or little known actors while being anchored by a few box office drawing stars to bring in the big bucks.
