recommend an xbox game for my son Support Apolyton buy from Amazon

Something older, so I can pick it up used.
something not a shooter, not m-rated, not a fighting game, not sports.

something that's pretty good, since I have no idea what's good or not on xbox.

a couple I'm looking at are Azurik, and Morrowind. Morrowind because it got such good PC reviews, and Azurik because it looked good on the box.

but I'm not sure if they really are good.

you pretty much eleminated all the good games.

What do you mean by not a fighting game? Do you mean you don't want any violence whatsoever?

That eleminated Morrowind. Knights of the Old Republic is also another good game for the X-box.

Azurik sucks. Btw, instead of buying your games used, you could buy a platinum edition game. They are older, bargain bin games that are sold at a reduced price, about the same price as used games. Prince of Persia is a very good platformer. Beyond good and evil is also good.

How old is your son anyway? Morrowind is a complicated game. For example, I wouldn't buy it for a 11 year old. Also:

- Crimson Skies is also good and cheap.

- James Bond 007: Everything Or Nothing (probably the best Bond game, and its cheap!)

- Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic (platinum edition)

- Splinter Cell (platinum edition)

- The Lord Of The Rings: The Return Of The King

Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic would probably be best. The PC version is pretty much the same so you wouldn't miss out on anything. Unlike with Morrowind.

I made my recommendations based on the PC versions. I admit I don't own a X-box .

how much different is the PC version of Morrowind compared to the X-box version?

That's why I recommended Knights of the Old Republic. Unless the kid is heavily into RPG's and likes manipulating numbers to create more powerful builds, Morrowind is more of an older kids game or adult game. KOTOR is very easy to learn and play.

As for the violence, it's not too bad. In KOTOR you will be slaying humanoid type beings along with creatures. But there is no blood (unlike Morrowind which does have a little bit of blood I believe). No bad language in either game. Sex is pretty much non-existant in both games, but there is romance in KOTOR (though I can't seem to get it ). And most kids like star wars, so they should like this game. though kids who like action over story might be put off by the game at first.

OK, sorry about not giving that piece of info. My son just turned 14.

I didn't buy the Xbox, I don't have one, but my son has access to a few at this place he goes to.

What I meant by no fighting games was stuff like Tekken, or Marvel vs. Capcom, in which the point is to fight it out.

My son doesn't like sports, I don't like the idea of giving him shooters or fighting games.

OK, so Azurik sucks, and morrowind may be too hardcore rpg for him, but all seem to agree that KOTOR is a good choice.

Do I understand this rightly?

My first thought when I saw this thread was KOTOR. Its an older game (so ~ 20 bucks), a good game, and there is a sequel out if he gets into it.

Prince of Persia might be in your definition of a "fighting game." I've never played it, but from what I've seen you seem to be fighting ghosts/zombies in the like instead of actual human beings.

Sid Meier's Pirates is coming to Xbox eventually, that would probably work as well.

Not too much...just that if something bad happens you can't use the console to fix it and you can't add any mods.

Its not a fighter, like Ninja Gaiden: its a platformer with fighting in it.

Yep. If you want something even less hardcore, there's always "The Lord Of The Rings: The Return Of The King", a very good action rpg with very nice graphics.

Splinter Cell is rated Teen, and is more about thinking and patience than fighting, but certainly has violence.

Oddworld Munch's Oddysee is pretty cool and funny.

The other games mentioned so far are also good.

Splinter Cell takes patience, If I was 14, I don't know if I'd have that kind of patience.

It's too hard for me so it will definately too hard for a 14 years old

No really I never got immersed in the storyline. Nothing seemed to be going on, so I didn't know what to do but wandering about doing a quest occasionally, but all I got was some weird creatures attacking me sometimes, and some silly errand jobs. The game itself is cool, but should've had better quests with more unique dialogue instead of the same old talk

Morrowind might bet too massive of a game for a tyke, but I'd say Fable would be perfect for any age. Although you want used.

quote:

Maybe not your "non-geek" 14 year old. I know 13 year olds who have beaten the PC version.
KOTOR would be good too, I know many people over a wide age range who are into this.
If you want to bore him to death or a coma, get him fusion frenzy.
How about a racing game? Those are always non violent?
I'm not sure about pirates of the carribean b/c I never played it, but my home -diggity-dawggggzzzzzzzzzzzzz said it was in the hizzouse and off the hizzook.
BTW whoever said grabbed by the ghoulies, that is NOTa good game for a 14 year old.
To be honest. Halo isn't a bad (bad in that it will corrupt your child) shooter. You shoot aliens in it, and end up having to rely on alien plasma guns anyways, b/c they have a better availability to power ratio. The story line is clean, the gameplay is great.
In mechassault you shoot other robots.
Nba street volume 2 might be handy. Nice arcade style gameplay that anyone can immediately enjoy, and its a platinumh it, so you get the ultra cheap 20$ price tag. It also goes to multiplayer which is always a plus.
You can also aim for an older tony hawk game. Try T.H.U..(Tony Hawk's Underground)
Very cool story create a character, multi etc. Best in its genre.

It took me a while to get into this game. But I do like it now.

As for understanding it. I understand most of the rules . Although I still have trouble getting those 5X attribute points sometimes. Sometimes I can do it, other times they don't come up for some reasons. And I never really learned alchemy that well, or even enchanting. Yeah I heard enchanting is super great and all, but I can kick some major ass just from the weapons I find.

What was Theif2 rated as? It does have killings in it, but not that much gore, although it does have you needing to clean up blood stains - so that may be too much for you(i'm sure your son would be fine about it though - teenagers hey ) - but its quite a good xbox game and has a certain 'coolness' to it.

KOTOR is probably looking like a good bet if he or his friends havent played it already.
(and i agree Azurik is not worth it, even as a bargin second hand!)

Pirates of the Caribbean is good, but only if your son likes fairly slow based rpg style games and pirates - Morrowind is in comparison a bit more action orientated(but also more complex), but both offer loads of gaming hours if they are games he'd get into. Both have been known to crash the xbox from time-to-time.

Jet Set Radio is an old game(and came free with the xbox a few years back), but its got a very good feel about it, great music and again a certain 'coolness' factor. It a street skate arcade game, not a sport game so much, not violent either which is a rare thing. It can get pretty tough in places though.

Baldurs Gate - Dark Allience, is a fairly easy(lite) rpg style game and can be fun in a pick-up and play kinda way, should be a cheap second hander by now too.

Suffering from ads?

Just reporting after the fact:

My son LOVES the game! he said it actually requires some thinking, and so it's a break from the nonstop action and killing of Halo2 (which someone else there has)

as an added bonus, I downloaded a bunch of text files off the internet for him. with all the walkthroughs and extra stuff, it would be 300+ pages of reading.

He enjoys the plot and about everything in it.

Thanks again everyone.

yes but at least you get to make some dialogue choices. and think about what consequence your actions have.

not that it's a big game thing. your actions really don't affect that much of the story (just a few parts). The only reason to pay attention to what actions you take are so you can attain the highest (or lowest) light/dark side status (which gives you a bonus)
