	where should board games be discussed? Support Apolyton

Classic games is supposed to be about Civilization/boardgame, MoM, and Colonization. I read that slash (NOT comma) as indicating that discussions of the board game CIVILIZATION belong there. Others are interpreting it as the general place for board game discussions. Theres a thread on Risk, and another on Settlers of Catan. I usually post about board games in Other Games. Now its not like Classic games is crowded, but then we could sure use some more threads in Other Games that arent Forum Games .

So what should it be?

Boardgame discussion would probably be better in Classic Games. FGs in he OG are continuously bumped, the only threads to survive are those that also have a number of people also playing the game at the time. Threads about boardgames would drop like a rock. Survivability and visability for such a thread would be far greater in the Classic Games forum.

At least, thats my take on it.

Its not that bad. Usually it takes over a day for a dormant thread to drop off the front page. While the number of posts to FGs is huge, the number of threads on page 1 at any one time seldom exceeds 6 or 7, so as long as that doesnt get much worse, it doesnt make the board unusable. On the other hand visibility IS greater on classic games - but then the same issue occurs any game that doesnt have lots of current players.

I suggess that one merges all the Civ3 MP foums into one, with the different kinds of MP in an underforum. Like the old Dinosaur forum you know.

But doesnt that apply to a lot of games other than board games? Most of the less popular older games?

Not in my experience. If an old game is good enough and someone is feeling nostalgic enough to start a thread on the game, chances are others are also feeling nostalgic about that game. Seeing the thread will be enough to get them playing that game as well for a while. And even if people don't play the game, they have enough knowledge and experience to talk about the game still.

Depends. I once posted on 1602 AD, and it sank like a rock. Even a Sid Meiers Gettysburg thread sank like a rock. Any wargame thread other than 5 start generals, and maybe TOAW, tends to sink like a rock. Sometimes it depends on whos around - sometimes one particular individual may be interested, and if they happen to look in OG, than something gets going. But id say that for Wargames and other niche genres you get less response than youd get for Risk or Monopoly.
