How many YEARS looking the same, with the Civ2, Smac and other sections with the same appeal... What about a redesign? Just use CSS, a light website with easy menus... That's all! Integrate the sections better, just a small change... No flash... No java... Just the classic apolitonish code of web creation... But something NEW!

2005 is around the corner, probably you have enough time for it!

If there will be a CMS I am highly in favor of lightweight output!
Oh btw, writing one for yourself would probably be the best solution, but it requires a lot of time. I finished one last summer that had rather basic requirements and it already took considerable time.
Of course you probably know better....

I also tried to find a free existing solution that I could adapt, but they all seemed to be very heavy or not have what I wanted. And adapting requires that you look into their code and understand it...

It's actually great how the site is being managed without an effective CVS . Oh, and I do actually love the loading times of the site pages, it's fast even on 64 Kbit lines. I hope the Civ4 pages will also be light, although a graphical update might be nice - but now, when many sites are overloaded by Flash and graphics, I'd love to see Apolyton stay true to its traditions.

This site is everything else than fast... Even on my 2 Mb broadband line, loading the whole page takes ages! To open up the page is no problem, but to get every single post takes forever and ever. Often I get the first 10-15 posts and the one or two more comes up every second or so. Hopeless, but I have been used to it for a long time, long before I got broadband. But weird it is...

Well, I do get a good DL speed, don't remember how high, but it's broadband speed allright. Every other page but Poly is fast too. And a few times Poly is also fast, but seldom.

That's odd. To me, 'Poly is only slow on dial-up connections.

'Poly is pretty fast with broadband. Using a dial up connection for 'Poly after using a broadband one is very painful though.

An example, clean the amount of links in the forums, how many people use the "profile" "pm" "search" "buddy" links? What about this: clicking the username of the writer goes to a menu with these options, same if you click the avatar. At least the main thing is the message, not the user.

Also the "new thred" and "post reply" buttons, what about selecting the type of the message while editing it? Just a button saying "new message", if you do from the tree of threads, a new thread by default, if it is done from inside a thread, a new reply. Just less links, buttons , text, rates, quick jumps... etc...

Ehm, I use Profile and Search reasonably often, and I'm sure that the search-button has a lot of added value to many members.

Not needed. I come to Apolyton to post and have fun, not to look at pretty layouts. And it's especially useless if Markos has to spend a lot of time on it.
