quote: After seeing poor Vondrack devastated in the other game, I've come to the conclusion that winning DGs should be very very low on life's priorities. I'm more interested in playing for fun, and not getting too stressed out about success and failure. I certainly don't want to spend very long on MM and planning, and I don't mind losing because of that. |
Agreed.
A long time ago, I remember making a post in the GS forum basically saying that we would inevitably have to sacrifice some efficiency in order to retain our sanity (IIRC, this was around the time Nathan burned out).
I realize now that it's more than just that. It's not just the time/effort you put in, but the emotional attachment that gets created.
In short, let's not love our empire too much, because there are pretty good odds that it will eventually get torn to shreds.

p.s. We started this game with the deliberate aim of having a more fun, lighthearted PTWDG. CoD, from the moment we selected England as our civ, chose not to optimize everything for victory. This continued with our city-spacing. It doesn't mean we go out of our way to play sloppily, but I'm done with planning our worker actions and city builds 20 turns in advance and MMing down to the last shield.
