Snow has a point... if there is a TV portrayal of Bond, that doesn't count.

Btw: I don't know.

There was a tv treatment of Bond in the 50's -- can't remember who played him, though.

Nah. There was, if memory serves, a not terribly good made for television one from the 50s, which I seem to recall seeing when I was but a nipper.

It had Peter Lorre in it, but I can't remember the actor who played Bond.

'Casino Royale' came out about the same time as 'You Only Live Twice', which would make Niven the third actor to play Bond, if you count the 50s version and then Connery.

Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

I thought the question was a fair one as I simply asked who was the first person to protray Bond. If some of you feel that it was an unfair trick question, however, I humbly apologize....honest I do.

Molly was mostly right. In 1954 they did a one hour Americanized version of Casino Royal with Peter Lorre as the Soviet master spy Le Chiffre and (American) Barry Nelson as Bond. The show failed miserably.

Suffering from ads?

That's cool. I was just racking my brains trying to think of an earlier Bond movie than Dr. No and I didn't even consider TV at all (even if I had, I still would have had no idea).

Got spare money?

It took a little bit of searching. I knew of a movie called "The Golem" from the silent era about the Jews of Prague, but the mummy thing threw me off.

Karl Freund, director of "The Mummy", worked as the cinematographer on "The Golem" back in the 1920s (thank you IMDB). Boris Karloff, who played the mummy, was an avid Cricket player who on further research has his picture hanging in Enfield Cricket Club north of London.

I assume that's what you mean. You never go for the simple questions.

Bah, had to Google it. I've seen the movie (and it's pretty good!), but I certainly wasn't alive for the Academy Awards at the time to have a chance of guessing correctly... interesting question though.

I wonder if somebody else knows it fairly.
