Ahh, the beginning of the end. Was really remarkable. At one time I actually enjoyed sitting at a table with young men who were going off to a small ME country to kill the infidel. Somehow, I doubt they would be so open about it now.

Yeah, you could guess that maybe one small country might go fundy. So freekin' what? In the meantime you helped a 'little people' kick the royal sheet out of the Red Army and provided a link in the short chain to the fall of the Soviet Union. You should recall that most of us this side of the wall were somewhat apprehensive about our chances were the Red Army to be unleashed across the Elbe.

Should the CIA have foretold 9/11? Maybe. But trust me, no one alive was thinking that at the time. Everyone was thinking, holy ****, these guys are kicking Russian ass! We didn't think it could be done this side of armageddon.

The Afghan insurgents didn't exactly fight the cleanest war on record either, NYE.

Though probably to a lesser degree, they certainly employed terror as a tactic. Most guerilla armies have.

No doubt, but they actually defeated the occupying army, face to face, not their own people.

They were as terroristic as the VC, only they did not require the intervention of an outside army to finish the job.

When I think back to the young men I met, who were on their way to join the Mujahadeen, it causes me to pause a moment before condemning all Jihadists today. Some of them may be doing things for a 'right' reason, and not simply cutting heads off.
