I just phoned my sister in law and everything is fine.

My brother is safe, everything is normal.

As the reports from the Thai resorts were poor, I mistakenly thought that perhaps the Thai southern coast was hit . I didn't realize the Thai coast facing Sumatra was that large . Must be because when i visit Malaysia, I usually head out to Malaysia's eastcoast, it's so much better then the westcoast.

Don't know how my sister-in-law's family is doing on Penang Island, but given the few casulties there, I guess I shouldn't worry too much.

I'm deeply sad about this.

Here we are used to have quakes, the lastest faced in the central valley was a 8.1 ~ 8.3 in 1985, which provoked damages but not to many deaths, thank God.
On 1960 several quakes hit south Chile. On May 21st, three 7.5 hit Concepción, on May 22nd a 8.1 hit Valdivia at 3.10pm and then a 9.6 hit the same city at 3.40pm. New lakes and hills born from that quake, which was the biggest recorded ever. After the quakes a huge tsunami sunk the cities in the south and huge waves reached Easter Island, Hawaii and Japan...

I can't imagine what is facing 6 tsunamis a day (like people in south east Asia faced today), or even two huge quakes... I only hope that the aftershocks aren't that big and rescue operations work properly.

My thoughts and prays with the people of South East Asia.

Tired of ads?

Yeah, the figures are now up to 6000+. Before the end of this, we could easily have 10,000 dead from this monster quake.

Last I heard it was 7,100 from drudgereport. I would expect it to climb to 25,000 or greater. Why the high number is because the area this hit was densely populated. I'm deeply saddened by this event and several of my relatives were in Thailand on vacation at the time. I have no words on their safety and do not know anything right now on it. I'm hoping that they were NOT those trapped in that one cove off Thailand.

This will probably be inaccurate in one hour.

THE death toll from an earthquake off Indonesia and the tsunamis that it unleashed reached 10,226 today, with officials reporting deaths in seven countries in southern and southeastern Asia.

Only a small southern part of Thailand was affected. Your friends are probably currently having a hangover in a brothel in Bangkok (nothing personal, it's just that I still haven't figured out what else westerners do in Thailand than **** little kids).

Yeah right. Tell me something: If you really care for your relatives, then why don't you have any idea where exactly are they? Thailand is a pretty damn big country (½Mm²), and like I said, only a narrow southern part of it was struck with this disaster. Most of the population is not within hundreds of kilometres of that area.

Yeah right my ass.

Because information travel slowly in my family. People don't often tell me where some of my relatives are going. They told me they were going to Southern Thailand on vacation, and I was not concerned where they were before the earthquake. I did not have to know there exact location. Furthermore, you're a damn fool who should just shut your mouth. You shouldn't even be in this thread. Most of the resorts ARE IN THE SOUTHERN PORTION, 200 TOURIST DIVERS WERE SWEPT AWAY, YOU FOOL! Are you serious or just trolling? Here's an idea: quit showing your ass. No one asked you to "whip yourself from shame", but a little goddamn respect for the dead isn't too much to ask, is it?

I tried not to reply as Gian asked, but since commies seem to be getting kicks out of mental masturbation...

quote:
Show some god damn respect.

It's pretty damn easy to just whine about people dying because of some disaster which occured on the other side of the globe. Trying to help them could be a bit harder, but what would be the fun in that? You wouldn't have time to praise yourself from "showing respect" anymore. You're not the only one with close relatives in SE Asia, you know. Some of them ain't just ****ing around as tourists.

quote:
Because information travel slowly in my family.

They don't have a cell phone or anything? Try using SMS.

quote:
I was not concerned where they were before the earthquake.

Ie. you didn't really care until it occured to you that you could use them in an argument to whine to your fellow posters here?

quote:
You need therapy.

A bunch of people died since they either lived right next to a continental slope or they didn't build their houses properly. Where's the big outrage? I guess I could enter a few sad smilies in order to look good, but what's the point? What would that solve? Really, who cares? Do you think you really even remember this accident after a year?

EDIT:
quote:
I hope you never have to deal with the loss of a loved one before their time.

Ok, this is just bs. Love is a hippie lie, a feel-good term which in reality doesn't exist, a depressing euphemism for lust, used to gain credibility when you need to look good in front of kids. I think we all know this, we've grown up. You can stop using this holier-than-thou -crap.

Boy, did you wake up on the wrong side of the bed or what? Whine about people dying because of some disaster? I don't whine. I discuss. And I show concern especially since my relatives are in fact in Southern Thailand. I don't know there exact locations in Southern Thailand. Furthermore, my family is trying to get into contact with them. You should just be careful what you say, dipshit. Be very careful. I'm not praising myself... just showing some concern, like others in this thread who have had expressed similiar concerns about their own loved ones there.

quote:

They don't have a cell phone or anything? Try using SMS.

They can't have a cell phone because the service they use does not have international service, as most cell phones. You need to smarten up too.

quote:
you didn't really care until it occured to you that you could use them in an argument to whine to your fellow posters here?

Whine? You are a fool.. and you don't know what you are talking about. I simply am expressing valid concerns and am posting valid information.
