random map questions Get a bigger avatar today!

recently I have been ending up on an island almost every time I play a random map game.. By an island I mean a landmass with room for only six or less cities and this when some of them are quite close. Is their anything I'm doing to cause this? I usualy play games with the deafult settings on transcend huge map. There are several large landmasses but no one seems to end up on them. Is this normal? Should I just decrease the amount of sea cover for the game? (Don't want to do this but guess I could). For random maps what settings are considered normal?

Trying to work on my builder stratiges so having only six cites is a real burden.

Put an end to popups!

I don't think that you are doing anything causing this other than your difficulty setting. If you don't want to change sea cover, then start digging - that is terraform up. There are probably other islands/landmasses in the neighborhood you can connect to, and with four rover formers working the same spot it doesn't take much time.

Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

Yes - you need to reduce your water coverage - either that or beeline for Doc Flex and then send CP's out in trannies until they hit other landmasses

Playing on a smaller map aslo helps somewhat (some of my started-then-quit games have been on humungous maps where only 1/4 of the map gets inhabited - I've even been placed on an island that could support a max of, say, 10 bases with another faction also placed there. Meanwhile continents that could support 50 bases are left unoccupied!!

The other thing to do is to load a library with maps, then when starting a new game just load one of them - they are ususally CMN designed, so will give decent starting places for all

Here's 1/2 a dozen from my collection - don't look at them first, but just load one when starting a game and then play on (that way you don't have foreknowledge of what's coming)

Playing on the map of planet, while you may know the make, at least calls for more strategy and realism. It is probably one of the best maps you can get for an average game. If you want something specifically for builders, though, you're gonna need something special.

I'm not good at searching for old threads, but I do remember some discussing changing the world builder. I tested the idea out, and from what I could tell, it make pretty decent maps. Not as good as those, say, on civ, or as the map of planet, but good enough...

Nice I have to say playing on the spartan chronicles map would be interesting, still haven't read through all of it. Thanks again.
