In any case, opted for semiautomatic instead.

Attached is a hypothetical battle's spreadsheet. The gray and bright colored boxes are those that need manual entry.

Main gripe left is damaged ships, they really mess with the spreadsheet. I want to make damaged ships auto-repair and deduct 1 BP from the next turn's cash, but I could see rare cases where players would prefer otherwise.

What you all think?

I think you should be able to choose to "cancel" it if it better suits your strategy for the following turn, though. But that'd make it an exception instead of the norm, making Smiley's workload lighter.

Autorepair is on, and I'll have it so you all can do deficit spending of 1 BP for the next turn.

Now for the details of this mechanism...

Cruisers still have a slight advantage actually since ships have twice the hitpoints as they cost, so they can absorb 3 hits worth 1.5 BPs and cost only 1 BP to repair. I'm not sure how I missed that implication way back in GO I.

Frigates can absorb 1 hit but they will be scrapped as they'd be uneconomical to repair.

Wait a minute... any other class of ship taking 1 hit will essentially take 0.5 BP of damage but require 1 BP to repair. Thus cruisers would still be hard to justify in comparison to frigates...

Now if we have ships ignore those 1 hit damages, then frigates ought to as well or they'd just suck too much. Cruisers will still have the slight edge when it comes to allied attacks.

So, in light of that, here's a clarification that ought to preserve the strategic balance.

Ships that have been hit only once are considered to simply have had their shields exhausted, and automatically restore full hit points after the battle.

Ships that have taken 2 or more hits will be automatically repaired at the cost of 1 BP after the battle

Now if there is auto death.....

Sometimes I wonder about not giving people shields on turn 1, since it allows suiciders to take out whoever they want in the game. An 32bp laser rusher, even if countered by an good OOB and build, would set an player back enough that turn two/three survivial is difficult......
