That's wrong. The preorder shipped 4th January, the game itself ships for stores for the first time 14th January, in Scandinaiva and the US. All this is information given by Paradox. But I wouldn't mind the shop owners to release it too early...!

Nikolai, I'd believe that the shipping date for stores was also 4th January...at least that's what I've understood from reading the Paradox forums.

I don't have the game yet but expect to receive it within the week....

General impressions from other players seem to be mostly positive, but apparently some AI and balance tweaks remain necessary (the first patch was released today).

I don't know if the shipping is another thing than for sale, but the game will not be in sale before 14th January. Of course, the experience shows that a shop or two always will start to sell before they are allowed.

I called my local Gamestop... they have it in stock.

I spent all my Xmas money or else I'd buy it.

Well the game was supposed to ship on Jan 4 (according to EB's website) in the US but because of Atari's ineptitude it has been delayed. Yesterday my local EB games merchant told me to come back today to see if it's in.

It seems they misjudged the demand, so the game is out but in limited quantities. That didn't affect the loyal people who ordered direct from Paradox

I've lost a lot of respect for Atari. Clearly they based their decision on HOI1 sales. They have no clue what a big communtiy HOI2 has now.

Anyway I got the game. HOI2 in a nutshell rocks.

There have been many changes since the first game. Of note is the new research system. You no longer need IC's and resources to conduct research, just money. Money is generated based on how many consumer goods you make. Money is also used now for diplomacy. These two areas are somewhat similiar to Victoria's model.

Rubber is gone but is replaced by "rare materials".

In my current 1936 campaign as Germany I haven't yet reached the war years so I can't comment on the battle engine yet. The big change though is the new movement is combat system. Can't wait to see how it works in the full game.

I downloaded it on the weekend... very good game. I might buy it and support the developers.







I haven't faced any combat yet. I'm too busy cheating trying to get all the technologies researched before 1939.

Im too used to the CORE Events. the Version now (1.1 when I finally got it ;=) ), has just too few
The Ability to change the Intern Politics (EU2-Style) is nice, Trade is okay but research :

Although I've only played a total of 5 hours of the 1936 grand campaign I can honestly say that this game is in much better shape than HOI1 was when it was first released.

Its without doubt a much more polished product than HoI was at 1.0 and fun to play in its present format. I have a long list of niggles, but they are just niggles, not showstoppers. The AI is clearly not as good as HoI 1.06c, but it should not take anywhere near as long to get it to behave well.

In HOI1 they got the AI to behave by adding in events scripts which forced the AI to do certain things in a predicatable order, however, Paradox has been outspoken they want to get rid of the predictability scripting causes. We're back in the same catch-22 where the AI doesn't work without events scripting but events scripting makes the game boring.

A week shy of three months past the release date and still no patch other then the one which was offered on release day. I know they said they don't want to release a patch until they get all of the bugs reported but I think nearly all of the bugs were reported with in the first month. Maybe we should start a betting pool to see how long it will be before they actually put out the patch.
