Once CFC has passed the save on to GCA, they will post a brief message along the lines of
quote:
due to inactivity and the lack of enjoyment in the game by this point, we three teams (CGN, APO and CFC) have sadly decided we will not continue in this game. We invite the remaining teams to determine whether we should end the game here and now, or whether they wish to find replacement teams willing to play in our stead. If these teams are found, we can be contacted for password information. Final statements from each team will follow.
| .
We will then soon follow up by posting a final message from each of our teams. Here is what I propose for this final message as, at least, a start point. We should try to get this done quickly. It needn't be special, just have the basics.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Due to prolonged inactivity and a general loss of will to continue with this game, Apolyton has played it's last turn in the first Civ3 Intersite Democracy Game, 850BC. We invite the remaining teams to decide what they wish to do with the game - finish it now or to find others to play in our place.
Apolyton congratulates the team that has earned the highest score - GWT. We leave the game with a great respect for your overall game strategy and acknowledge you have provided all of us with an amazing challenge.
Lastly, Apolyton thanks all who have contributed positively towards making this game such an incredible experience. We are especially grateful to the Admins mongoose, Micaelis Rex and FortyJ for guiding us along, and going far beyond what was expected of them. We all owe you a big thanks.
We hope that everyone else has gained as much from this game as we have, and we look forward to any future challenges with teams in the Intersite game.
Please respond quickly, as this will have to be submitted soon.

Looks good. But I have a couple of questions. I agree with DeepO about the score thing, and as he has said, not sure how else you state it.
Question - do we want to acknowldge GWT as winners of the game? I'm thinking the score wording may look like we are weasling out a bit. If we are leaving the game, and GWT is ahead, then I am thinking we should be big enough to grant them the victory (despite the discussion in the other thread about the possibility of a victory if we stayed in it.)

I really don't think that as a team we can say much more. Despite only few members posting, there is not a clear agreement that I can see. I would prefer to see in the team statement what we can agree on, and maybe if Consuls and Ministers like, they could make freer more personal (and thus not bound by what the team as a WHOLE wants to say) congratulatory statements towards GWT. I would certainly congratulate them more strongly than this.

Second question - do we want another team taking over for us? Big Free questioned this elsewhere. Having someone else complete our start is not quite what I had contemplated when the proposal to quit was tabled. This is not one of my 40+ pbems that I just got tired with, and am now handing over to another player to complete. This was Apolyton's game. It should end with Apolyton. |
I don't really see the harm. Why should we care what happens once we've washed our hands of it? It would merely be an exercise for GWT, should they like it to be. Besides, it's more a courtesy than anything else - CDG might take over one of us, and maybe Grenouille the other, IF they're still about to care (which I doubt). But no-one in the game at the moment should be able to play a different team since they know the workings of at least one of GWT or GCA, so it's not even remotely likely a possibility.

Since there have been those concerns raised, I don't think we should go ahead with the offer for GWT/GCA to decide what to do with the game.
Thus here is what seems to be the final statement to post, which I would like to post at the UN, as one of Poly's final Consuls, unless we have to post it quickly, for some reason.

Apolyton congratulates the team that has earned the highest score and established itself as the #1 civilisation in this game - GWT. We leave the game with a great respect for your overall game strategy and acknowledge you have provided all of us with an amazing challenge.

That's essentially my original suggestion with the extra part of Kloreep's and with one of the first sentences slightly altered.
Did I leave any Admin names out? We should certainly include them all.
Also we should keep in mind that there was no quarrel against the CFC team members that I can remember of - just Lucky.
Finally, GWT or GCA may demand we resign or acknowledge GWT as the winner of this game by score or some other measure. If GCA demands this, I strongly suggest we do nothing. If GWT asks for it, I think we should accept it. We are acknowledging defeat by default in a sense anyway, and although it's not specifically mentioned in the team announcement, if need be we have to bite the bullet and do it, I think.
Total ignorance of GCA is essential, I think.
