Final message to the UN Increase the size of your Attachments

Once CFC has passed the save on to GCA, they will post a brief message along the lines of

quote:

due to inactivity and the lack of enjoyment in the game by this point, we three teams (CGN, APO and CFC) have sadly decided we will not continue in this game. We invite the remaining teams to determine whether we should end the game here and now, or whether they wish to find replacement teams willing to play in our stead. If these teams are found, we can be contacted for password information. Final statements from each team will follow.
.

We will then soon follow up by posting a final message from each of our teams. Here is what I propose for this final message as, at least, a start point. We should try to get this done quickly. It needn't be special, just have the basics.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Due to prolonged inactivity and a general loss of will to continue with this game, Apolyton has played it's last turn in the first Civ3 Intersite Democracy Game, 850BC. We invite the remaining teams to decide what they wish to do with the game - finish it now or to find others to play in our place.

Apolyton congratulates the team that has earned the highest score - GWT. We leave the game with a great respect for your overall game strategy and acknowledge you have provided all of us with an amazing challenge.

Lastly, Apolyton thanks all who have contributed positively towards making this game such an incredible experience. We are especially grateful to the Admins mongoose, Micaelis Rex and FortyJ for guiding us along, and going far beyond what was expected of them. We all owe you a big thanks.

We hope that everyone else has gained as much from this game as we have, and we look forward to any future challenges with teams in the Intersite game.

Please respond quickly, as this will have to be submitted soon.

Cheers. I was trying to keep it quite neutral towards GWT whilst still acknowledging them being ahead, and there are NO mentions of GCA anywhere. I think that is perfectly appropriate, whether you hate them, are indifferent to them or simply do not believe they really exist, as I do.

The "ahead in score" thing is a bit tricky, but I don't see any way to put it better. It does show it is not because we don't see anyway of winning that we leave. Whichis perfect, I think, as it is not really a reason...

MWIA...

Looks good. But I have a couple of questions. I agree with DeepO about the score thing, and as he has said, not sure how else you state it.

Question - do we want to acknowldge GWT as winners of the game? I'm thinking the score wording may look like we are weasling out a bit. If we are leaving the game, and GWT is ahead, then I am thinking we should be big enough to grant them the victory (despite the discussion in the other thread about the possibility of a victory if we stayed in it.)

Second question - do we want another team taking over for us? Big Free questioned this elsewhere. Having someone else complete our start is not quite what I had contemplated when the proposal to quit was tabled. This is not one of my 40+ pbems that I just got tired with, and am now handing over to another player to complete. This was Apolyton's game. It should end with Apolyton.

I really don't think that as a team we can say much more. Despite only few members posting, there is not a clear agreement that I can see. I would prefer to see in the team statement what we can agree on, and maybe if Consuls and Ministers like, they could make freer more personal (and thus not bound by what the team as a WHOLE wants to say) congratulatory statements towards GWT. I would certainly congratulate them more strongly than this.

I don't really see the harm. Why should we care what happens once we've washed our hands of it? It would merely be an exercise for GWT, should they like it to be. Besides, it's more a courtesy than anything else - CDG might take over one of us, and maybe Grenouille the other, IF they're still about to care (which I doubt). But no-one in the game at the moment should be able to play a different team since they know the workings of at least one of GWT or GCA, so it's not even remotely likely a possibility.

Giving the possibility for others to take over, but requiring some effort on their part (they have to ask for the password) is ideal I think. It is just courtesy, nobody is interested in taking over a game right in the middle, especially not in the middle of the medieval era. It takes a year before any action is going to happen.

There is one other thing, though. I can imagine other teams (e.g. GWT) are interested in seeing what we have been doing, and as such like to check our save. Just to see the build(ing)s... it doesn't do a lot of good either. Similarly, perhaps some of our members are interested in looking at GWT's territory too, to e.g. know where the FP is exactly.

I still don't like the idea of someone else playing "our" game. If that's the teams belief that we should allow that then I ask that I allowed to play the game out, alone, as a dictator.

I hear what you are saying BigFree, and I dont disagree. However once we have washed our hands of it, what does it matter really?

And if you want to go to the UN and say you will play as BigFree, dictator, then more power to you.

But do you REALLY want to do that BF? Aren't you kind of pressed for time as well?

I would still like to put in a statement to the effect, something like this:

"Due to some of the negative aspects of this game, we will be considering strongly whom to invite to future Demo Games and we would hope that the other teams competing here would do the same."

That way we get one of the biggest reasons across, without pointing fingers.

If you guys dont want to do that, thats fine by me. I just felt I needed to ask.

Full PM-box? Change here!

That would be pointing fingers, con. Unless GWT or CFC would actually think we were referring to them? Let's leave that out.

As for the issue of turning it over: Considering we are quitting a game GWT may want to continue, I think it would only be polite to hand the position over, if there's actually somone who wants to play on for us. Though I'm doubtful there is. The game, as it has been, is over; but it could be continued in some form with another team.

If there is no such group and GWT agrees that the game is over, a save exchange to see each other's empires would be fun.

Oh, and I think we could step it up to:

quote:
Apolyton congratulates the team that has earned the highest score and established itself as the #1 civ - GWT. We leave the game with a great respect for your overall game strategy and acknowledge you have provided all of us with an amazing challenge.

While I don't think we can really say they won, the score remark alone may seem as almost a snub, considering they know their Civ3 enough to know it isn't a good indicator of success. So let's use some sort of wording like "#1 civ" or "most powerful civ"

I agree with Beta.

Con: You're right, I am pressed for time. The only reason I would not want to turn it over is so that GWT cannot win against someone else besides APO and claim victory against APO at the same time. Maybe I'm being a little nitpicky on this though...I'll just let it rest as it should.

I've had some really great times here and in chat along with some not-so-great times...Oh well, you take 'em both

OK Im going to post something at the UN in about 4 hours plus.

Thats the time we agreed to at the UN.

Ill get the reword in there.

Im a tad disappointed that we are not going to add the statement about picking your play mates but ah well.

Any future competition that GCA is in, you wont see me participating.

You only need to bite me once before I learn my lesson

I don't think we should for the official team statement. I or some other Poly rep should certainly post (but not in an emotional over the top manner) expressing the concern at the conduct of, well, to be frank, Lucky. I just don't think this belongs in the team statement, which I'd rather not be sullied by this.

Since there have been those concerns raised, I don't think we should go ahead with the offer for GWT/GCA to decide what to do with the game.

Thus here is what seems to be the final statement to post, which I would like to post at the UN, as one of Poly's final Consuls, unless we have to post it quickly, for some reason.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Due to prolonged inactivity and a general loss of will to continue with this game, Apolyton has played it's last turn (850BC) in the first Civ3 Intersite Democracy Game.

Apolyton congratulates the team that has earned the highest score and established itself as the #1 civilisation in this game - GWT.

-------------------------------------------------------

That's essentially my original suggestion with the extra part of Kloreep's and with one of the first sentences slightly altered.

Did I leave any Admin names out? We should certainly include them all.

Also we should keep in mind that there was no quarrel against the CFC team members that I can remember of - just Lucky.

Finally, GWT or GCA may demand we resign or acknowledge GWT as the winner of this game by score or some other measure. If GCA demands this, I strongly suggest we do nothing. If GWT asks for it, I think we should accept it. We are acknowledging defeat by default in a sense anyway, and although it's not specifically mentioned in the team announcement, if need be we have to bite the bullet and do it, I think.

Total ignorance of GCA is essential, I think.

from me.

Very well written, IMHO. It will be an honour to be a member of a team ending its ISDG part in this manner.

And agreed with the rest of your post. Whatever GCA demands, we will not hear. If GWT asks for a more formal "capitulation", they should have it.
