I don't post here very often, but I have followed some of the ideas and wishful thinking that the list you have prepared include. I think it is an excellent work that you have done, and I hope that Firaxis does take many of these great ideas into consideration and production. Thank you for the gigantic list of ideas and variations, even if they aren't implemented in cIV, they are interesting food for thought, none-the-less.

Thanks for the honorable mention, DC.

I never touched on this before, but the reason for my sudden absence back then in December of 2003 was sudden death in the very close family. Apolyton and the list seemed quite unimportant then. Thanks for taking over the reins, and for doing such a nice job of it.

DarkCloud, I commend you on your fantastic work on the list. It is an amazing collobaration on your part.

I also thank all the threadmasters who helped put effort and work into the listl ... with special emphasis on that thanks to Nikolai for all the various work he did.

I remember it was roughly a year ago, maybe less or more, when Soren took a copy of the list; I can only hope he took many ideas from the list and he has once again come back to download newer and finalized versions to help aid in the creation of Civ4.

EDIT: and I see a Yin siting in this thread; how nice. I always thought his/your comments were of great value in the months leading up to and shortly after Civ3.

Great work on the list. I think it could've been further broken down though. The reason is that I highly doubt Soren or anyone at Firaxis will read the entire 166 pages, rather, Soren or the producer would give out pieces of the list to section heads (like the lead in AI, or the lead in Graphics, etc).

I'll admit that it would have been good, if the list had been pared down some more, but that was the idea of the subject headings- if the developers read a heading and wanted to read more on the topic, they could- if not, then they could skip over it.

TechWins: Thanks. In retrospect, I think something more like what came a bit later with the Top 10 lists would have proved better from the start (more focus for Firaxis, etc.). Soren seems to have his head in the game, though, so this iteration might yet get me back and posting!

Solver: Wow, that would be a *really* slow news day.

DarkCloud: Thanks. Of course, I can't take any credit for being creative. After I helped to release the last list, a group (I can't remember who ran it) staged a big vote for each section of the list and came up with a Top 10. I suspect had we done that earlier, Firaxis might have had a better chance of knowing what we find most important. At the end of the day, though, they also want the game to appeal to newbies, too, and not just the Poly hardcore...so our Top 10 might not be as important as -we- want it to be, anyway.

I do know, though, that Firaxis read every page of the previous list (it was printed and tabbed, etc.). So it wouldn't suprise me if the same happened this time as well.

I can only hope that-
though Soren did make fun of one or two suggestions that missed my editing mark... IE: "the ai should be better" was pretty much the substance of one of the suggestions that was included.

but we tried to make the list as useful as possible...

I have an Idea,
I think civilizations that have some sources (such as oil) have some control on how much to export them , (import or export) .
in CivIII there are few controls on them , and the prices were too low or too high.
maybe having an analog value (0.25, 0.13) for import and export is better than Digital ones (1,2,3 )
another Idea is the control on civilizations, for example a growed civ can do many things on weak civs.
for example , when Babylon belongs to persia , babylon exists and lives , but it was not on maps. I think this would be alot better if a Civ became too weak it loose controls on many parameters (military , money and ...) .

another Idea is the size of buildings and city improvements,
I think it should be a parameter that user defines, for example a civ can have the bigest market in one of its cities, and other civs try to build bigger than it (a thing similar to great wonders, but all of sizes is different and no limit on building them in any time ...)

I have another Idea

letting factories to have build some products, (depend on size of the factory that we said to build in a city) industrial or ... products.
for example Car,Bus,Airplane,Locomotive
if a factorys size is large then it produces larger amount of products and can export and import them.
I think the parameter of building products is better to define with user , and the product it builds be an automatic settings depend on needs.(and player could change them)
for example my capital is persepolis and I told it to build factories size15 and it automatically builds Car and conserves (14 for car, 1 for conserve and etc)
but Hamadan is not growed,I told hamadan to build factories size 2, and the factoris only builds Lamp and car wheels, for example.(it will be too hard for programmers I think )

importing or exporting Electrical Power Enter the AD-FREE zone

A new Idea :

It would be alot better if Electrical Power be exportable. (importing oil or uranium, producing electrical power and exporting it)
perhaps it should more improvements, like "Power Lines" in addition to Power Plants.

New Idea Support Apolyton, pre-order Civilization IV

Its better to let the Player define size of buildings and city improvements.perhaps larger improvements may have more effects and take more time to build.

for example : I build a library with size 2 because the city that builds it is small, or in my capital I say to build library size 7 because I want to have the largest library in the wotld (and the game tells which civilization has the biggest one).

or another example : I am persia, my biggest university is in pasargad with size 22, but America has university with size 24 in NewYork, Pasargad is building a great wonder so I tell the persepolis to expand its university from size 18 to 25.

the amount of shields depend on size exponentialy.

for example : building university size 8 takes 1280 shields but university of size 4 takes 320 shields, or size 1 takes 20 shields. (exponential values)

a thing similar to great wonders, but all of sizes is different and no limit on building them in any time ...

Hmmm, seems like you guys have put in a lot of work. I admit myself that after the CivIII List I suffered a good amount of disappointment with the game, and when the announcement of Civ4 came out, I saw a lot of rehashing of the same ideas we wanted in the 1st place. So I haven't participated in these (not that I would have had time anyway), but I am glad someone took up the reins.

Good job
