Suffering from ads?

I'll try to work up the energy to open a save in the not too distant future...The ISDG1 has sort of removed my craving for more demogames. Ending the game removed most of what's left of my energy....

I'll guess things return to normal eventually.

I could talk all day about that game, it's a prime example of how a few people can ruin things for the rest, I hope poly have fully recognised your team as the winners. Although if poly had played the middle ages like they played the ancient age things could have been very different.

Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

When I joined, the game was fun, inspiring and nervewrecking. Unfortuneately it degenerated painful and boring. In a way I am glad it's over. Gives me an opportunity to recover mentally

Interesting read in the UN now btw. Looks like there were nothing but chaos in the diplomatic relations between the teams on your continent. Maybe it explains how APO come to dominate the eastern continent.

I would be interested in hearing an insiders view on APOs history btw

I'm pretty sure there'll be people preparing stuff in the forum.

Poly's rise to domination was no co-incidence or fortune though, it was all carefully orchestrated and poured over for long periods of time. The other teams were all a bunch of kids and with the experience of the PTWDG1 it was almost too easy. It was like the combined might of 6 of the 7 teams in PTWDG1 coming together, against teams who played like Lux Invicia had played in that game.

The only problem was the Poly team quickly became a victim of it's own success, everyone wanted to be a part of it because it was doing so well out of such unlikely a start and so the team became very political which is where things started to go stale. Decisions started to be made more on the basis of who was actually proposing something rather than what was the best course of action. And certain people who had been around for a really long time were allowed to make decisions not because they knew best but because they could pressure everyone into doing it.
Like the way Poly research Monachy right in the middle of the Med age.... that was such a retarded thing to do, and so many people were saying it was really stupid but it soon became a battle of wills rather than a discusion about what was best to do.
In the end it was as if it wasn't enough for Poly to win the game, they had to win with certain people calling the shots.
Also it didn't help that most of the people who were really good and knew what they were doing, left and were replaced by people who were thoroghly incompetent at the game but were able to manouver themselves into power.

ET in particular, who did all the domestic stuff, was really bad, but had everyone convinced he was really good, just cos he put loads of time into it and then whenever someone disagreed with him he would constantly go on about how much time he had put in and how it had cost him his relationship, etc......

Also BF generally being a dick all the time, that kept loads of people away, and GCA cheating - whether they were cheating or not didn't really matter in the end as everyone was convinced they were.

Togas, MasterZen and NotYouEither would be good for a history of Poly. Togas is particular did all the diplomacy early on. Trip would be good for a battle report of the war with GCA, at the start he was prevented from being incharge of anything other than millitary because of how badly his team had done in the PTWDG1. He was very good at the millitary stuff, but later when he got more involved in other things he became more of a liability.

I think I've heard other than you complain about internal politics making the game uninteresting btw, it may have been paddy...

The way you handled the ancient age *was* impressive. Interesting how the hosts of ptwdg1 and their only guest(GWT/ND) ended up as the strongest powers You by machiavellian diplomacy, us by aggressive warfare.

How did your decision-making process work? We had something resembling a swiss-style democracy. Long-term strategies were made by consensus or votes, always after long discussions. The turn-by-turn running of our team were very similar. Mostly a minister would make a turn-proposal and the team would discuss it, when consensus had been reached the zugführer would play the turn, eventually make reports on combat-results etc if things needed further discussion. The ministers had very little formal powers. When I was minister of war the most I could do without permission was to send forth a scout or two to post screenies for the team.

The titles were most for showing off
(well, as minister people would at least *read* your suggestions before dismissing it)

I started out as an idea-maker btw. Spitting out ideas by the truckload, only to have the team shoot them down equally fast. Occasionally some of my ideas were approved, after some polishing and tweaking of course but I think the process worked very well

This is probably a safe place to say it but personally I think this game was thoroughly underadministrated. Like a soccer match with a blind ref. Teams got away with the wildest stuff, other teams wanting to get even by cheating more etcetera etcetera.

I've got some(old) reports from GCA about the war with you btw. You had some very creative use of settlers

Hard to comment on ETs domestic work but I can clearly see why BF may have been disliked. I can't recall him ever being rude to me(or anyone else from GWT) but I've seen the posts and comments he made about or even to other people, Lucky in particular.

Some time before you started your invasion attempt we got a message from GCA where they was worrying about you having astronomy soon. I remember wondering 'how the hell do they know?'. Of course, knowing you *could have* astronomy was just a matter of knowing the size of your economy and making an educated guess about your intentions. Without noticing, all the talk about GCAs cheating made me forget to think rationally and look for evidence of foul play.
