Score Percentages Inflate your Upload Space

I did a search of the forum and was unable to find an answer, so I might as well ask here.

I just got a high score in single player (516%, don't recall the point value) with Gaians and I was wondering what the percentages means anyway. What would 100% mean?

Thanks

Well I can only assume that the designers figured that 100% would be a perfect game. Little did they know how far we psycho gamers would push their masterpiece.

Thankfully they had the forsight to allow for higher scores than what they had imagined

I would feel bad if my score was only 100%.

even in civ2 you could exceed 100%, so I'm not sure they intended that as a benchmark of a perfect game.

There's just no way they thought 100% is a perfect game. heck you can easily surpass that doing a one city transcend win !!

I never knew what the score really meant and only played for score once. I aborted the attempt as too mind-numbingly boring around transcendent thought thirty or so ( techs were coming 3 or 4 to a turn).

Personally I don't find score all that relevant a measure of skill

I still kinda sorta play for score. But I don't unecessarily drag out the ascent to transcendence. I almost always rush it when I can. But I do do things like max out my population as much as I can, and build all the sp's I can.

The rating, I think is a made of number in the game that is completely irrevelant. You see, when you play bad, the game makes a really high number to make you think you did well...

It's another government conspiracy...even on Chiron...

Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

The %ages compare scores across difficulty levels. You may have noticed that 2000 points on Talent is worth a lower % than 2000 points on Transcend. I doubt the comparison is remotely useful, but that may have been its intent.

In absence of any other interpretation, there is no other choice but to assume this is the case. If you have a better theory I'd love to hear it.

In transcend yes, but transcend was meant to be a superlevel, not the norm. Run the same game in Thinker or Talent and your score will be something like 1/2 to 1/4 as much

I keep sitting down to try to get the highest score possible for myself, but as soon as I dominate militarily, I get bored and quit.

Clearly MP provides a better idea of competitive ability. But for those of us that don't play MP need some measure of our performance too.

No better theory but the mere fact that scores above 100% are possible and are measure leads me to believe that 100% was not "perfect"

there are other levels ?? . . I never play them and I would likely not take advantage of things like fewer drones-- I would end up quelling drones that would not have even existed

Ditto-- I see no fun in keeping one hostile AI around the map while I try to build a bigger and bigger energy park orlet multiple bases get to size 100 etc etc.

MP is the best IMHO but I think there are a number of challenges out there that can be fun

1. switching sides-- a favorite of mine-- I have now done 2 switches a number of times -- Its fun because you KNOW there will be two enemies with good tech, infrastructure and pop.

2. many of Darsnan's and googlies challenges-- you literally never know what will show up in these things. Among things I have seen are

a)AI's with satellites from day one
b)Native life with the cloaking ability
c)native life that can capture ships
d) AIs with crawlers from day one
e) Ai's set permanently as your atrocity victim
f) multiple landmarks of similar types
g) interesting maps with chokepoints and channels
h) AI's given Ogre 2's or 3's or even some custom ogre.

and on and on. Its always fun as someone has taken the time to make it interesting plus you have several perople trying the same challenge so there are points of comparison

The fact that scores can go above 100% only reveal two things

1. A scoring cap was never implemented

2. It was not easy enough to quantitate a perfect game as a specific set of cirumstances, so they left it as an open ended and just picked an arbitrary score.

Not only are there other levels, some people actually play them. Hell I still use "thinker" level in some cases.

It should be easy. Even if scores are one tenth what you get on transcend . . . I would just think it would be tedious-- You are playing with research growth and production ADVANTAGES versus the AI-- You should quickly get so far ahead that it would be just silly

Get a bigger avatar today!

yeah I played a game on the lowest level today. . It wasn't real tedious, the game went super fast. I transcended as fast as I could (though I didn't beeline- I went for every single tech).

I got over 100%. I can post a save if anyone is interested.

the game went fast, I didn't micromanage (though I rarely do anyways). Pretty much forest on everything. I only built 2 supply crawlers. I really didn't need them. Very little infrastructure in my bases. Just tree farms and hybrid forests. Though I kept getting slammed with blight because of my lack of biology labs. I know they are useless facilities, but I build them because I get sick of all my forrests being destroyed.

Support Apolyton or Terrorists Win

I'm not suprised it was really easy.

I have been playing OCC's and little variations like Two city challenges-- they are fun but still do not require much effort to win-- I think I will go back to trying the "switching sides" challenge-- That one can be a real test but its not one where you can run up the score

nope

he's talking about building your faction up to #1. And then using the cheat mode/editor and switching to the AI faction in last place, and then build them up to #1. Useful if you no longer find the game challenging anymore.

Thats right and the real challenge is to switch sides more than once. Its a real blast to be taking on TWO empres that you created with crawler fields and sensible terraforming .. . its an even bigger blast to take on THREE.

The only good thing that helps a lot is that when you are that far in last place, the AI is pretty nice to you. You can ALMOST ignore tech for a while to concentrate on infrastructure and watch the AI give you stuff time and again.

It requires some different strategies but it is a fun game to play

IN a regular game they give me nothing either unless I make them submissive.

But if I switch side so I am pathetically weak, I can adopt SE settings to make as many people happy with me as possible and then watch the techs flow in--- The AI doesn't see you as a threat and gives you lots of stuff

Suffering from ads?

actually I have gotten units before. That happens fairly frequently.

Though sometimes annoying when they give me non clean units when I'm playing the morganites. And the units were a superior model than I had the technology for, so I couldn't upgrade them to clean reactors without paying an huge amount of credits.

This could lead to an interesting form of PBEM: you're permanently pacted to another player, but need to cause them to lose by any means possible that don't break the pact. Transfer units to increase their support costs, convince AIs to attack them, encroach upon their borders, limit their commerce by using specialists, etc.

I am real anal about my design workshop and I hate it when the AI gives me some crappy designed unit or gives me so many units it causes support problems. In either case I take the donated units and disband them in a city where the extra mins can help build good units or facilities.
