Single pop capture and CP Support Apolyton, buy Civilization 2

After much forum reading I was supprized to find out the following two things.

First, is the city tile on which you found a city. I read that any "resource" bonuses present are lost because city squares always produce 2-1-1. I am not talking about luxuries or strategic resources. In my current game, for the sake of proper placement and a nice row of hills, I had no alternative but to settle on a tobacco tile. I figured the loss of 1 commerce was worth it. Much to my supprize, the city tile produced 2-1-3. Makes me want to test other resource bonus tiles now that I am not in despotisim, wondering if that is what caused the losses previously stated.

Second, is in dealing with a captured city, population one. I have read that a lot of players will make sure there is no food in the box, and no food produced, and build a worker. Unnecessary. I captured two cities, one had 1 pop, no food, the other 3 pop. I rushed a settler in the first one just to see (considering my previous finding thought it worth a try). Sure enough, I got the abandon box and my 1 pop city became a foregin settler unit. The second city (size 3) ended up starving down to size one because of unhappiness, and had 1 food in the box. I let it cook a bit to build a few shields and rushed another settler. same result. While it was cooking, I was moving one of my settlers over to that area as one tile over would be a much better city spot (lake access).

Now, what to do with those two japanese settlers? I brought them to my 7+ cities and added the two population to them. considering the food box is twice the size, figured i got good value. Not sure how long it will take for them to assimilate, but being a minority for less time than the city was founded it should not be too awfull long. no more scraping for food for growth in my big cities, i will just import a few irritated foregin nationals. Woot.

Either you misread or what you read wasn't completely accurate. It's well-known that commerce bonuses aren't lost by settling on a resource. Food bonuses are. I'm not 100% sure about shield bonuses.

only food and shields are lost, commerce are not.

Help yourself to an AD-FREE life

Shield bonuses are gained when the city hits size 7.

Unless you add it to your capital. I've never seen a capital flip before.

Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

They don't have to flip to cause you grief. If you are at war with their countrymen, they can just go unhappy and cost you.

Yeah, and barb (or foreign) slaves are too good to just add to a city. I much prefer being able to retire my own workers and use two maintenance free slaves instead. That way, I also keep my cities pure.

Of course I keep the free maint workers around.

The foregin settle i ordered to join my capital is still foregin, but have not had any unhappines problems yet. their mother country is still in the game though. The other is from those pesky English, eliminated, so i am not really worried about mother country unhappiness. It's just a matter of time to see how long it takes for them to assimilate. Would be nice if assimilation was speedy when the mother country is gone. AI respawn is turned off.
