Changing difficulity after game ending Remove this text

When i play Civ3C i always try to eliminate all of my opponents. But as i'm not one of the best Civ-players in the world, i never end the game before 2050 or whenever the game ends.

Now - I have this feeling that when i reached 2050, the game changed from the second easiest dif to Chieftain since i didn't win the game after year 2050. Am i wrong on this one, or can it be true that the dif changed back to an easier level if you don't win (like one of my opponents suggests i go back to chieftain)..

I would like to play this game until either i'm destroyed or until i have destroyed all of my opponents, but i would really hate if the game automatically goes back to the easiest dif without asking me whether i want to do that or not...

Must say that i might suspect myself from choosing Chieftain at the beginning of the game, but don't really remember

I never heard of it changing, so I doubt it. One easy way to tell how you set it up, is to start a new game. The setting are the same and you will see what level was picked.

Eliminating all civs or conquest is no so easy in 540 turns if the map is large or huge or islands. Also at the lower levels research will go slowly as the AI will not be very good at it and you will need to research everything first.

If you have a tool such as CivAssist, it can look at a save and tell you the level.

Well, it tells me the difficulity when i load the game, if that was what you meant with "level". When i selected a new game, it said that the last game was Chieftain, but i believe i've started a couple of small games to try various things, which i often tend to do. Anyway, not at all sure it has saved my starting settings this time, because it was set to China, but i don't recall i have played with China ever - also the tiny world, which i basically never do. Well, whenever i (hopefully) have won this game i will start a new game and take a bigger look at if the difficulity will change (will also get back to this thread and reply what i find out if i remember to do it).

Just found out that it said Chieftain on the Hall of Fame list, so i guess i have played Chieftain all the time Just a bit stupid that my opponents said "Go back to Chieftain" when i reached the ending date. Sounds like i was playing on a higher level than Chieftain, but never mind with that now - got it all sorted out, probably just hit the wrong difficulity button (it is so long ago i started the game, so i can't recall if it really was Chieftain i wanted to play on, or if it was an accident )

ahh yes, those are just the generic taunting comments the pictures say at the end of the game. Pretty generic in that they only change based on whether you win or lose.

Yeah, but guess it is standard that they suggest you to go back a difficulity level.

No, it's standard for them to say go back to Chieftain.

This can be seen by starting a Sid level game and resigning the first turn.

Ah ok, i see, so it is more like a provocation more than a suggestion from Infogrames said through the national leaders.

yeah provacative. Silly taunts. It's meant to be humorous. Most people here don't care for them. I never read them. I like the guy with the sledge hammer though . And of course the replay at the end.
