Where?

Students don't know crap about civics because they aren't required to study it. I doubt half of the high schoolers actually know what the 1st Amendment protects. Hell, 75% of students think burning a flag is illegal!

When they go to college, which does a much better job of teaching civics.

Yeah it was coolio. Work shut down early at 2:30. I went to the store to stock up but lines were freakin wild so we decided to risk it and go w/o groceries.

I 'member being down here in Atlanta on business the year Atlanta hosted the superbowl '96 or '98. They had an even worse ice sorm that bascially destroyed every pine wiyhin eyesight. Amazing.

Anyway its back to normal for now. Beats livin in the snowbound Northeast. (suckers :lol

Imran: I have actually learned very little about the US government in college - I haven't taken a single course on that subject. My high school civics course was actually quite good though, if a little simplistic.

Most people will take the US government class in college. Usually they have a reputation for being 'easy' and fulfill a social sciences requirement.

High school civics is also not required in every district and a lot of times less people will take it, because of all the requirements that do exist to finish high school (college is more open).

This is exactly why I think the state and federal governments need to get over their "you are required to do this and this stadardized assignment and/or test" fetish and LET THE TEACHERS TEACH!

The one-third who believe in censorship are the same one-third who will volunteer for the Mobile Infantry after they graduate. They will become citizens and the others won't.

Civics class was a requirement in my high school. Not only that, but the school insisted that seniors register to vote. Since then, I've missed only one election.

As for those who believe in censorship, they'll find out at some point in life how horribly wrong they were in their youth.

I say the third of the kids who are budding dictators, should be taken to new schools, made to wear uniforms, denied all electornic equipment, and beaten if they speak out of turn or misbehave. They should be happy with that sort of discipline.

The article makes no mention of how they feel about socialism. If anything we are raising them to be authoritarian.

It is applied to their own lives. WHEN THEY GROW UP! Why wouldn't they want freedom of speech when they grow up, if they are oppressed now?

Granted, but then, I'm an old offensive lineman, so I have a soft spot for Dukes. Buck is still living off one pass to Lindsay Scott and the ability to hand the ball to Herschel Walker every play.

I honestly don't care one way or the other about Kincaid, though I highly suspect you're dead on. I just can't stand Belue.

I think you're overanalysing this data...

Every kid must finish High School in US in order to continue their studies, right? Do you still remember how seriously these standardised tests were taken when you were in compulsory school?
