	Oh Jesus, Someone help me!! (Computer Problem) Browse Apolyton AD-FREE

I've made a big booboo...

I was changing the size of a couple of my partitions... nothing big, I've done it many times before.

But when Partition Magic 8 rebooted, it enountered an error and told me to reboot. This has happened before and is not usually a big deal, but...

Suddenly I couldn't boot into windows. I went into the recovery console from the XP CD, and it reported that my C partition was an unrecognized type. I then used the "fixboot" command and it detected that my C drive was FAT and changed the file type to that. The only problem is - ITS NTFS!!

From my other install of windows (on another physical hard drive) the C drive is recognized but it has nothing but a few garbage files on it. This is probably due to the fact that it is reading the drive as FAT, when it is actually NTFS.

Can anyone please help me?? I'd ideally like to repair it, but if thats not possible, how can I recover some of the data on it? I have a few very important files on there which I unfortunately don't have back ups of. It appears that most of the data is still intact (I'm assuming) but with a messed up partition table.

SO far I have tried: fixboot, fixmbr, fdisk /mbr, and NOT chkdsk (I've heard you shouldn't do that in case you want to retrieve data).

Can anyone help??? PLEASE???? All I need, at least, is a way to get some files off the drive.

Partition magic is now listing my drive as "FAT (4k aligned)... what does that mean?

And when I go into partition properties, it lists the type as "07 (Hex) QNX, UN*X".... what the hell is that?

And how the hell can I change it back to NTFS??

You really done ****ed up now- I'd suggest looking online for a program that can fix this, this looks too messy for manual.

Update: I downloaded the demo version of EasyRecovery and it has found my files to be intact... only problem is I can't extract them with the demo. But at least they're there



all those months of thesis and job work not down the drain... yet... Now all I need is a program that will actuall extract them...

There's another data recovery demo that can recover files smaller than 64KB.

As I said, there's another data recovery program you are free to use, and it can recover files smaller than 64KB.

I'm trying my best not to sound like an ass, and this won't certainly help you now, but seriously: backups. Backups backups backups. Every time I'm writing something that's time-consuming and substantial, I have at least a few days old backup of it on my school server, the webspace provided by my ISP, and on a floppy just in case. A thesis I'd probably throw on a CD once in a while too.

The EasyRecover Lite is 89$ if you buy it online. I don´t know your budget, but if the files are that important you might want to consider buying it. You could sell it later and get some of the money back at least.

If you're absolutely sure only the partition table is wrong and everything else is fine, try gpart.
