Thanks for your interest. Unfortunately, cowiki is not an option at present unless I either upgrade my server package or cahnge service providor, as I do not have sql facility.
Also, I prefer the dokuwiki feature of storing all data as plain text, as that makes emergency recovery a LOT easier.
As for levels of access, dokuwiki suits my needs just fine. I bet you haven't even seen any trace of my genuinely private pages on that wiki. The one thing I would like is an easy way to grant access rights without using ftp (the existing admin web interface sucks), but I understand that is being actively worked on in the development version. My big gripe against dokuwiki is that the search feature is essentially broken at present.
The other thing I'd really like to see is a way to add discussion pages and user pages automatically. But thats more bells and whistles than essentialia.
I'm not quite sure what you mean about the two different designs being present though. I do of course want to make it easy to use, so if you have any recomendations, feel free to shout.
Incidentally, I am not adverse to migrating to a better wiki backend, but my criteria are:
- no sql at all
- php preferred as the programming language, as I have at least a passing facility with it, so I can at least pretend to be able to modify it.
