The physicists took Abrikosov and held him in an ice bath, until he was dead. "It is the way he would have liked to go," said Leggett. Perusal of his room turned up seveal of the missing prizes. Satisfied in their intellect, the physicists went to the hotel to sleep for the night. The hotel staff gave all the living physicists new keys when the arrived.

When Taylor went to unlock his door, he was electrocuted. The hotel staff all were completely shocked, "We had had ordered a security company to make a new electric locking system so we could tell when I door was opened and visually verify it on the security cameras"(also newly installed). The police were called and questioned the installer. "It wasn't suppose to electrocute anyone, a circuit was suppose to be completed when the key was entered in." When the police took appart the door, they discovered that the mechanism emplaced had been tampered with. The physicists all went to sleep, while the police continued the investigation.

Ok it's getting down to analysis time. And there isn't that much to work on. Except only one mafia left and whose method of killing is electrocution, which could be any one of us. There was a suggestion that the killer sounded American.

The only remaining Amercan physicists are Adrian Hon (but a Brit) and Vlad Antlerkov (Texan?). Sparrowhawk is Canadian, but his alter ego is German?

As physicists we all have worked with electrical forces but only one as far as I can see with lasers Adagio (Zhores I. Alferov) and with solar power cells.

But there is a reference to a donut and that could be a reference to CERN.

That might pinpoint the scientists who worked there.
So still undecided. Anybody want to throw some further insight.

Confirming Vlad Antlerkov and Adrian Hon are the only Americans left alive. But Kassi was Mafia and his physicist is Russian.

--There's only one other Russian on the list, Alferov (Adagio).
--Co-winner of the 1997 Nobel with Kassi (Abrikosov) was a Brit, Leggett (rah).

--The prizes found in kassi's room were from the winners from 1997 (Spaced and Spike) and 1998 (Skanky), all Americans.
--What's weird is that Phillips (Spaced) was killed by the group, not by Mafia, so why would that prize be in the room?
--The prize found on Gell-Mann (American, dead by Mafia) belonged to a Wilson (there were two Wilsons, both American, both dead by Mafia).

In fact, all Mafia kills so far have been Americans.

Looks to me like our Mafia were Gell-Mann (killed by Kassiopeia) and Abrikov (Kassiopeia).

So we're done! Glad I got that settled.

I'm still mystified as to the identity of the Mafia. There's the early clue that the Mafia 'sounded American' but as Hercules has pointed out, that doesn't narrow things down much; there are still a couple of American nobelists left (including myself). Not entirely sure about the donut thing either - could be about accelerators or colliders like CERN or the ill-fated SSC. Haven't looked up the scientists for those yet though. Ho hum. Seems like a bit of a waiting game.
