This is the DAR thread of AU 506: The Power of Early Warfare.
This (final) DAR covers the elimination of the fifth and sith AI AI (7-5=2; 2-1=1). Use this thread to discuss your warmongering strategy, and recount your exploits.
Yet more (optional) questions:
1. Why did you pursue your warmongering style (suggested answers: autopilot, boredom, mental incapacity, sadism…).
2. 2. How would you think the game might have evolved if you had spared those puny two leftover civs? 3. What would your overall strategy have been?
4. Are you going to play the next AU: FlowerPower?
P.S. and off the record: many thanks to Dominae and all the team for this challenging map (without irony, this time).

Sorry to disappoint, but I went with simple Domination. Without building, or doing self-research, I'd have to go with Knights against Rifles. No, thanks.
AU Mod, Emperor level
I have set restrictions for myself, to force war. I am not build any Wonders, nor science buildings (Libraries, and on). Also, research is at minimum (a scientist, or 10-20%) all the time.
Zululand has many luxuries, so no Cathedrals, or Colosseums are needed.
Having no high-cost buildings, and running a sole Scientist, the empire is making lots of cash. Its divided between upgrades, and rushes (Courthouses in cities that can use them, Temples to expand borders, Aqueducts to grow).
880 AD
The Maya build the Statue of Zeus in Chichen Itza. A bit late.
It seems, that they started winning the war with India. Took a second city, after just killing units for a long time.
890 AD
A Zulu force enters southern India. Not much, but reinforcements follow.
Maya and India sign a peace treaty. 4 turns before the alliance deal would have ran out.
930 AD
Most Knights brought in. Thrown at Chichen Itza. And they take it, killing no less than 8 Musketmen.
Some Mayan units are killed off, and Workers captured.
We ask the Babylonians to join the party. Just to make sure no sneaky attack will be directed at former France.
970 AD
Three Mayan cities fall. Of the existing wodners, Zululand now owns all but two.
Ok, now the Indians give me a reason to sign peace. They land an Elephant near four empty cities, of which I can reinforce only two. One is the FP city. Darned cheating AI. They give 220 gold, and a map for peace.
1010 AD
The Babylonians build Smith's Trading Company.
The Maya keep dying.
1060 AD
The Maya are down to 4 cities now. Will be exterminated, otherwise Chichen Itza would flip sooner or later.
The Indians keep sending Elephants in, to move through. I won't ask them to leave, not for the fifth time. WAR!
1100 AD
I used one of the MGLs to rush the Pentagon. What the heck does this do in the AU Mod? I noticed no visible changes.
India hit the Industrial Age, along with Babylon. I don't know what they have already, but I did see first Riflemen.
Indian cities start falling. Two for starters.
The Maya have one last city left.
I Switch some Trebuchet-cities to Muskets, and some Musket-cities to Knights, as more cities grow to useful size. Not that it matters at this point.
65% area, 75% population. The last Mayan city might trigger the win. Earliest in any of my games, that's for sure.
1120 AD
One city flips back to the Maya. No biggie, as it only gets a Spear to defend.
Another city taken from the Indians. They don't have Rifles everywhere, yet.
1130 AD
The defenders of the flipped Mayan city get "deposed".
Same thing happens to the last (third) Mayan capital. This seals their fate.
67% land, 77% population. Next civ is India with 15% of both.
Zululand rushes one more Temple, and kills one more Elephant - pro forma.
After hitting "End Turn", India and Babylon sign an Embargo against Zululand. Too late.
1140AD
Domination victory!

It increases the attack factor bonus for being in an army.
As I recall, a normal army has 1.25 * avg attack factor. With the SW with that flag checked, it's 1.5 * avg attack factor.
Horse attack when not in an army : 2
Effective Horse attack in an army : 2.5
And the bonus : 3
Knight attack when not in an army : 4
Effective Knight attack in a army : 5
And the bonus : 6
Calvary attack when not in an army : 6
Effective Calvary attack in an army : 7.5
And the bonus : 9
Also note that in the AI mod, every army has 4 extra hitpoints.
I needed every single one in one of my battles earlier.

Yup, glad to know your back. Here is what you do:
Open the HoF Main Page. Click AU Course 506, then press Submit a Save, which is on the right corner, and fill out the information there. |
Finally done, but the accepted screenshots are only 400x400...

Jon's DAR : Monarch AU Mod Dar 6
Part II: Annexiation of Maya interupted by Victory
The following restrictions taken upon myself to encourage war mongling:
1. I will not be in a representive form of govt nor may I pick Monarchy.
2. I will not build any libaries. [I may still try to reserach, but it may become less effective as time goes on.]
3. I will not build any great wonders unless I get and use a SGL. Any SGL may only be used for building wonders that are Military.
4. I will not build any small wonders unless I get and use a MGL.
Mayans chosen as the next target. 'bout time I annexed the Pryamids.
Spend several turns waiting for my forces to redeploy from India to the Mayan border.
540 AD Declare war on Mayas!
540 AD Raize the Mayan size 1 city on the Penisula to the ground!
540 AD Capture 2 Mayan workers on the border
540 AD Generate MGL, form another Knight Army
540 AD Capture Mayan Silk
540 AD Capture 2 Mayan workers near new border
550 AD French start construction of Copericus
550 AD Capture Mayan Plains
550 AD Capture Mayan Desert
560 AD Capture Mayan Pryamids Wall and 3 slaves. We now control the Great Wall! (And Pryamids)
570 AD Chemistry Discovered. Researching Metalurgy at 60 in 13. France has Astronomy and needs Enginering
570 AD Capture Maya Cow Grassland (3 slaves)
580 AD Capture Maya Mountain Harbor (2 slaves)
590 AD We have achieved a Domination Victory.
66% of land area. 79% of world's population
Final Score 7508.
END OF GAME
Earliest ever. My most advanced tech is Chemistry. France's most advance tech is Astronomy. OTOH, France bypassed the bottom half entirely, still needing Enginerring.

Closing thoughts:
1. The permission to build a Wonder if I used a SGL didn't come into play. Never got a SGL in that one. Not geting permision to build a Great Wonder didn't matter much either, without the shields being invested in wonders, I had the shields to build units to conquer them.
2. The restirction on small wonders slowed down my FP, but not too much. also due to the early wars. It also caused me to use a MGL on the Heoric Epic which is really cheap.
3. The no libary restriction really didn't start hurting my reserach until after my GA ended. In the ancient era, libraries were a rare enough sight that my conquests were building me up a tech lead that improved with conquest of the Great Library. When my GA came along, it accelerated with the extra science. It only started to falter [post GA and being granted Education] after I had enough Knights to take over the world.
4. Fedualism is a wonderful govt for war mongling under the AU mod, perhaps a bit too much so with it's lower corruption than normal. Even with over 150 units I was still well under my support costs. Knights are still built easily by size 6 cities. I actually considered building Aquaducts in my core area. I was even negleating the pop-rushing that the govt allows, mostly because if I had pop rushed Temples post ToA, I'd have won 5 turns after that point. Oh, and I never had a single citizen say give peace a chance. Now conquered India did strongly complain about me attacking their mother land until I finished it after ToA expired, but turning their large cities into all entertainmen silenced their criticisms.
5. There seems to be a severe problem with the Aztec AI and Jaquar Warriors; I never saw a single Jaquar Warrior.

I guess I will post a no win.
After everybody but everybody is my land as a freeway, no one would leave.
I declared war on China so Bab,French,Maya declare war on little ole me. Beeing hit from the top and sides.
I saw the hand writting on the wall when I lost an elite swordsman to a regular swordsman on open field.
After losing my only Iron, that was it for my real only fighting units available, all 5 did I manage to build.
Oh, buy the way I forgot to mention, I just started the medieval age. I could never buld a single wonder, even starting one earlier than anyone else, some other civ would find a way to make it first.
I will have to try this again from the begging
