Starting turn strategy ... my thoughts
* Settle with 1 settler, possibly 2. I think with the start we have, especially with the cow and the ivory, 3 might be a good idea; we don't have a lot of bonus food, but the luxury makes the decision easier to me. Also, so much forest means we'll have to chop a lot down before we can build good cities.
* Move one of the warriors east (-6). That should tell us if we can comfortably build 2 cities to the east now, or if only 1 will do. The other warrior can either go West (4-) or SE or stay in the city if it's built to 3 for happiness... (Not having to raise luxury levels until 4 size city could be a huge boon to the nation ...)
* Move one of the workers to the cow; one onto the bonus grassland; and one either on the tobacco or to clear a forest depending on the decision to settle 3 or 1 respectively.
* If the east is mostly just forest and hills, then head either north or south with the 3rd settler, depending on the results of the workers' vantage. My guess is south. Possibly both will reveal likely good settling spaces and thus both settlers can go these directions.
* If the east is good settlin' ground, head thataway with a settler or two. A second warrior can go along as well.
* Start researching pottery, definitely. My guess is we'll not be hard rushing with archers, based on this start; if we can REX quickly we'll be in a really good position, and archers can come a bit slower.
* I still recommend barracks, however; if we end up really close to someone (like BOH!) we'll want the archer option... and we should know in a few turns.

You made a beautiful thread for pictures, Snoopy, but I think it's easier to have a picture of the start location here.
The forests around are just beautiful. Enough wood to build us a granary in the near future. My thinking on how to start has gotten out of hand. Concerning the capital I have come to 2 options of which I like the one with the capital on the hilltop best. Everything seems to fit there. However, that also implies that a mistake

Definitely the first step to take. Allows for an extended look at the surroundings

As there will be no good to a warrior in a city that's either not yet there, or would be size 1, it's got to move. I suggest (2).

I agree on worker 1, however worker 2 is to join. Worker 3, is to road the ivory source they are standing on.
I sent an email around with an excel sheet where I tried to think trough the first few turns based on the starting position.

Had to crack my head over it and I would really like to have a out of the box approach with adding the 2nd settler to the first city to boost, but we can build a 9 turn settler/archer pump within 20 turns from our capital. Also good for spearmen or catapults if required. Therefore I would like to suggest to found 3 cities.

Off course the view over the hills will tell us more, but I’m thinking to move in the direction of the river north/west and the other settler to the east.

Agreed, although it will most probably put us in an unfavorable position in tech trading, it is absolutely required to start a granary fast.
