	MSN Messenger Suffering from ads?

Hi,

In "My Profile" settings, I can select my ICQ, AOL and Yahoo number/handle. However, in the part of the world where I live, and I believe in many other parts as well, MSN Messenger is the most popular IM-client.

Would it be possible to add an option for MSN Messenger, too?

They should first fix the missing Y!M icons in the memberlist and the postbit template (the section left of the actual message, containing the avatar and the other IM icons). Has been an issue for much longer.

As for MSN support, this has been discussed several times. Apparently they don't want it as they think displaying member e-mail addresses is bad and evil, despite they would just be IM handles. Something along those lines.

IMO this isn't an issue, but instead should be implemented. I second the motion.

Markos has denied this request before on the grounds that you would be giving away your email address to any and everybody on the forums - spambots included.

Personally, my MSN email addy isn't used by me, I keep my email email seperate. I don't check my MSN address at all - good old throw-away addresses.

How about just a "has MSN" indicator?? Then you could PM people for their MSN nick. Particularly useful if you're trying to set up a game or a team for a game or whatever and want to make sure everyone uses your preferred messaging system ...

I use MSN more then anything else. I only use ICQ for a few games which don't have built in chat.

I use only MSN out of the chat programs available, but I'd never give it out to everyone through a function like this.

I'd never use the MSN hotmail account for email, so I don't really care about spam harvesters.^-^

I do not use it for that either. Or rather, I do not, but some of my friends sometimes forgets it... I have my own yahoo mail account for real mail.

But if you don't want the spam, don't enter your MSN email. That's pretty simple, right?

My Hotmail address is all over my website already anyway and 99% of the spam I get goes straight into the Junk folder.

If I want to be vulnerable to spambots it would still be my choice, ultimately. Just stick us a field where we can make ourselves vulnerable to spam bots if we want to.

Asher hit the nail. However can also be done using images for displaying the MSN handles. No current harvesters can read images.

I would hope that the owners err on the side of security on this issue. I prefer to use MSN Messenger, but if it poses a security challenge then forget it.

It's not quite SKynet or Matrix because humans are controlling these bots. But I like the analogy anyway.

Me too. I sometimes have problems registering on such places, because the letters and numbers on the picture sometimes is nearly totally unreadable...
