Information: Babylon Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

This is a good thread for us all to read!

Lots of strategy

The link below points to the post about Babylon, but the entire thread is worth reading.

Babylon (Religious/Scientific)
Starting Tech: Ceremonial Burial/Bronze Working
Special Unit: Bowmen (2/2/1) Archers with extra defense (requires warrior code to build).

Be advised that the post is refering to Vanilla, and more importantly definately SP. So take everything there with a grain of salt.

Yes and no on the grain of salt. Some of the principles apply. One of the reasons I was keen to play Babylon was to test out the culture aspect. It may however, also make us an early target. And we are definitely going to have to consider the possibility of an early GA. Which, IMHO, is not such a bad thing in MP. Survival is key, and the early GA will probably mean you get the early jump on your neighbours, and be able to ensure survival.

I don't see us going out and being militarily aggressive in this game. But we should befriend one of the warring civs very soon into the game. We each have something to offer the other.

And the culture bombing will be interesting. What if we do 'consume' a neighbouring city. In SP you smile. In MP, they will prbably demand it back. In fact, such a requirement may be part of any alliance we strike with our neighbours.

And defensively - walls and bowmen. Lots of them

There - some early strategy ideas as well.

This is the best part:

The ability of the Babylonians to quickly throw up a powerful infrastructure allows them to build in depth what many other civs must try to accomplish in breath. Cheap temples and cathedrals quickly alleviate any happiness issues. Cheap libraries and universities quickly outpace even much larger rivals in research speed. Couple these with a short anarchy period, a free tech with each age, and the possibility of early culture flips, and the Babylonians will present a formidable opponent on any level.

Now we just need to build as many fresh water cities as possible to complete the whole cheap-improvement kit.

The point is also not too stretch too far, and instead focus on a good core of cities.

Agreed.

I think the closeness of our neigbours will force us into this approach anyway. And Koreep is set to smack me on the side of my head if I propose anything different.
