We have to decide what to research once we have built our capital. I suggest we start bronze working or the wheel.

My preference is bronze.

Interesting suggestion. However we need alpha and masonry before we can start researching math and we have neither. That's three techs (and rather expensive at that) and we won't know where the resources are.

My idea is bronze, wheel, iron, then mas, alpha, math, possibly horse.

Perhaps the SoZ will wait for us. Perhaps we're the only civ with ivory.

We won't have a science surplus in several turns btw.

There's always the opportunity to trade with other nations...If we gor for math ourself we will be sure we get it, we can always trade for other techs. Not to mention hut-popping which may give us a tech or two

Remember that the map is rigged by the admin to have both iron and horses within reasonable distance


Before deciding our research, maybe we should try to agree on a general strategy? The wheel+bronze working/iron working makes sense if we want to secure our resources first. Math makes sense if we aim for an ultra-early SoZ to start with those Ancient cavalry as early as possible.


We could of course start with bronze working to have a wonder available for SoZ prebuild...

Unfortunately bronze would only start a wonder in coastal cities.

I don't think we'll have time for wonders that early in the game. I think we need to concentrate on a military build-up and expansion. We can't spare a city for wonder building.

I believe we can not afford a wonder city early. We have the problem that we are behind in food to begin with...we will need to build up grainaries and barracks.

SoZ is cheap and powerful. There is no doubt in my mind that we should build it. The sooner the better.

With SoZ we don't have to worry so much about iron either IW can actually wait until after SoZ. Horses are important though. The make an excellent complement to those ACs.

The wheel first

When we know where those horses are we can secure one of them, then we can go after bronze working to protect ourself. Then mathematics(masonry+alphabet), and make sure we time a prebuild, the pyramids would be a great placeholder.

Bongo I know you truly want the SOZ but what if the map maker has given every team a source of ivory ?

wouldnt we be wasting a lot of valuable time chasing a wonder that someone pips us too ?

Would we be better off learning the map and making sure that if another civ gets ivory and manages to build SOZ we are strong enopugh to nick it off em

We'll se about that soon enough. If the 'F7'-screen is littered with wonder prebuilds we can safely assume everyone got oliphants.

After we complete iron working I suggest we max our taxes and move to building warriors. We should focus on getting a city next to iron source and connecting it to our cities, then upgrading all our vet and regular warriors to sword and moving to kill the pig.

just to clarify, Ljube suggests that once we complete Iron Working, we turn off all sceintific research and concentrate on warriors and upgrading them to swords for the great war of the porkers...

my understanding is that the current agreement is only for Iron Working

and we also have Mysticism from the last popped hut... that our Ambassador will await a few turns, possibly after Iron has been traded for Wheel, before mentioning

We had some good luck with this last hut, good luck indeed

We were researching Philosophy, this got switched back to Horse Back Riding. Then the Hut was popped... revealing Literature

Last, but not least we switched back to Philosophy, which will be completed in 8
