Beta sent this to me in a PM and I believe it is 100% accurate.

If you are not the turnplayer, you may open and play the save if and only if you play the turn either after the turnplayer plays it, or alongside (move for move), and make every move in the same order the turnplayer made it in the official (sent) save.

This is similar to PBEM etiquette, where you are asked not to re-open a save and play it in a different manner after sending it (or before sending it!). You get one play at it, and that's it. Any other plays, other than in the exact order the first play was made, is cheating in the highest degree and will not be tolerated.

If a team as a whole decided to cheat the way through. I cannot image anyway to caught such thing through a save.

No - there is no way to find this out. This is a matter of honour and integrity. And if integrity goes out the window in pbem's and demo games, then fun soon follows.

Very true. This is - like most 'etiquette' in Civ PBEM - a point of honor, not an enforceable 'rule' (hence my diction). It is after all in the day of Google trivial to edit a save game - even without any meaningful programming or assembly knowledge - using available programs, or at least get information about a save that would give you a killer advantage in any PBEM you played. Not to mention random number reloads (changing the order of battle to achieve a different result based on RNG determination)...

I mostly bring this up (and Beta mostly I presume as well) so that people realize this, and don't do it accidentally, particularly people who are new at DG's. Nothing's worse than violating a rule you didn't know was a rule, and unintentionally giving your team an advantage.

Nah ... i'd rather give my team a disadvantage intentionally or unintentionally than give them an unfair advantage.
