The Maximus years Support Apolyton buy from Amazon

My comrades, Senators of Rome I return here to report to you of my 25 years in office as Imperator of our beloved Empire!!!

As you may remember there was much to do before I could truly commence my term. Most issues were already discussed here...

http://apolyton.net/forums/showthre...threadid=129156

I did however on the basis of the polls do some further things before i ended the first turn. I moved many garrison units up out of the Peninsular into the hot spots on the Celtic and Scythian fronts, this freed up many Legion and Cavalry units for the first turn of my rule. I also spent the whole reserve on unit rushes and some barracks, of note were a Legion in Olbia a barrracks at Wines to Dye for and a Legion at Vesontio in Brittania.

Before I continue I would like to add that the previous emporer may well have done all these things if he were to continue on for a further turn, and that this game is now very big with each turn taking over an hour to play. The potential to make mistakes is there and perhaps it should be debated whether future emporers should have the option to play fewer turns ?

I have enjoyed my turns but it is a mammoth task of that i can assure you all.

I am not a micromanager at the best of times but with such a big empire i decided I did not want to be bothered with details so put the slider up to 20% imediately and set the govenor to manage happiness in all cities. All those of you who would decry this then do so at your hearts content I am more than satisfied with my performance.

Between turns AI cycle 85BC to 80BC

Carthage delivered 8 new cavalry units to the stack outside olbia, they made a total of 6 attacks with various units four of which were killed by Caesar Augustus, a Cav was redlined and ran away as was an Elephant. The amount of Carthaginian vessels around this theatre was truly inspiring.

At Vesontio we were attacked by a Celt Archer who kindly promoted our legionary to Elite status

At Wines to Dye for the persians dropped one cavalry unit off.

We were attacked in many places along many fronts and got many promotions, our losses were 1 Legion3 to the Celts and 1 HC to the Scythians.

Macedonia and the Egyptians signed a Peace treaty which I felt was a good development.

Put an end to popups!

80BC

A busy turn,

total of new units ready for active service were:

14 Legion 3
8 Heavy cavalry
4 garrison

several towns now have new barracks, and several more are identified as needing them; Aquelia,Optima Forma,Silver Hill,Gades and Optimus betamus.

I changed Olbia to produce HC to be rushed next turn when the price drops. Our galley carrying reinforcements to Olbia sailed to Aleria to wait till next turn to sail to Olbia. In the battle of Olbia i went on the offensive killing 6 of the fresh carth Cav and forcing 2 others to run for their lives, also killed two spear units holding the hills at 1 from Olbia. See pic below for scene after this battle

In Spain I mostly reorganised troops and set about connecting unconnected cities, and began to gather a force to attack the last Cathage city in Spain Ruiscade. The army was formed with Heavy Cavalry and given the Title of the "First Maximus Equites" and was sent North to recruit two further Cavalry units and be deployed on the Celtic front.

The units heading for Wines may be in Peril as the seas around them are full of Persian vessels, however i continued to move them towards their objective and held prayers and gave sacrifices at the Great Temple to Mars back in Rome.

On the Scythian theatre the enemy was pushed back completely from our territory save for one lonely swordsman who will be target practice next turn . I then set about sending troops to retake our lost posessions.

I again spent the treasury this time mainly on Cavalry to give our forces more fast movers, which we lack.

Pic shows scene outside Olbia after my first turn.

In the last pic those wounded stragglers from Carthage were rounded up before the next turn ended

Between turns AI cycle 80BC to 75BC

Carthage dropped only one cavalry off this turn at Olbia.

The celts main force has shown up, coming down towards Massila I counted around 15 Gallic Swords and 9 spears in the largest stack

Persia attacked us with three units at Wines, two were killed one ran away fatally wounded, food for the dogs of war next turn. They also kindly promoted our Legion to Elite status

Egypt signed a peace treaty with the Celts OUCH.

75BC

First thing i did was get all our remaining friends to ally with against the Celts !!

Goths wanted Horses and Wines, sold

Egypt wanted Horses. sold

Macedonia wanted Map and 40 gold, sold too. Not so good but I did not want to be backstabbed by any more AI's so I signed em up.

On the Scythian front I destroyed Cavillonum and recaptured Silk Meadows many many Scythian units killed in skirmishes but still lots of the blighters around Megara, which i could not get to this turn.

With only one unit arriving at Olbia from Carthage in between turns i decided to take the fight to them, we had the reinforcements just in by galley so a force of Legions was sent South to attack Caralis. Caesar was held back in case Carthage landed more forces in between turns. I dispensed the carthaginian stragglers.

At wines the Gods smiled on us and the reinforcements landed on hills outside the city, I decided better for them to go ashore than tempt fate and stay on board for another turn.

On the Celtic front I fought many successful skirmishing battles with the Celts slowing down their main force while i gathered my own togehter. The now full Cavalry army arrived at the scene ready for deployment next turn.

pic shows our victorious liberation of Silk Meadows.

There were a great many other events and battles but too many to report here

In between turns AI cycle 75BC to 70 BC

Macedonia and Carthage sign a peace treaty, this is a good development i think, as we will not suffer any attitude problems from Macedon if and when we treat with Carthage.

70BC

This turn was mostly a movement turn with lots of battles with the Celts. I attacked there main column decimating it almost entirely and killed many more of their units in lots of places.

I moved the stack to the North of Caralis and sent Caesar to 1 of Olbia.

I garrisoned the relief force in Wines to Dye for.

Had a skirmish with the Carths at their Spanish hold out and got the troops in place for an attack next turn and or the one after.

Between turns AI cylcle 70BC to 65BC

Many battles with Celts but miraculously no losses for Rome.

No AI diplomacy.

65BC

The Carthaginians had put two fresh units outside Olbia so Caesar Augustus went back to Olbia and despatched one of them whilst a heavy cavalry unit finished the job.

It was time to assault Caralis, amazingly it only had three units garrisoned in there, though I did see several galleys leave there in between turns. Gentlemen we took Caralis for no losses

60BC

I captured Ruiscade and completed the long awaited clearance of Carthaginians from Spain.

I captured from the Celts three towns, Rasuniae, Cenabum and Nemetocenna.

I formed the leader from last turn into an army but left it empty and unmoved in Olives and Silver in Spain, I then gained another leader near Hail Paddy who awaits the orders of the next emporer there enjoy.

I formerly wish to be known as former Emporer Chrisius Maximus, Hammer of the Celts!!

Carthage will sign peace and are willing to give 130 gold their world map along with three of their cities, New Nora, New Lillebeo and Leptis Minor. I have not done this deal to allow the senate to look over the details and confer on this issue.

I had to laugh at the start of this last turn as the final Scythian city of Megara flipped to us and I reckon they had at least 15 units in their when it happened

At the end of my term I leave a bank balance of 272 gold with the slider at 20% and 503 GPT coming into the coffers. I think the next Emporer will be able to re-establish the 1000 optimal gold reserves. The tide has most definitely turned to our favour during my rule and the Celts though still numerous are on the back foot.

Ive allowed the Govenor to control happiness in my term so I could focus on the many wars we are engaged in, way too much micro managing for my tatses to do otherwise

The Next emporer will find several units ready for him next turn due to some further rushes, most notably a new Heavy Cav in Olives and Silver intended to be used to form a second fast movement army. I know there are many who would prefer Legion armies but i can assure you all that the First maximus Equites performed most dilligently in the field turning the tide against the main Celtic invasion force. Its an excellent unit to have at ones command it has three attacks and of course the movement potential is 12 tiles on roaded terrain.

I would propose the formation of a second such army especially as we have another leader awaiting orders at Hail Paddy which has plenty of Legion Threes ready and able to join its ranks.

Support Apolyton or Terrorists Win

Some unit stats that I feel prove my use of the gold reserves during my term worthwhile.

Legion 3 before 57 now 78

Heavy cav before22 now 34

Garrison before 85 now 90

Armies before 2 now 4 (1 empty)

Leaders before 1 now 1

Citizens before 5 now 4 I built one town for me and Paddy to get drunk at

Legion 1 before 3 now 3 all in first army

Workers before 30 now 37, note i built no workers these 7 were all liberated from their former captors.

Archer before 2 now 2

Galley before 5 now 6, dont know how that one slipped through

Spearmen before 1 now 5, non rushed !!

Fire Cats before 2 now 2

These stats do not include any units we have captured but i did drastically increase our number of slave workers

I feel these numbers show a significant increase in our power and of, course do not show units lost of which sadly there were several. I decided to take risks and i feel those risks have paid well in dividends.

Our empire as it stands now at 60BC

Well done young man
Impressive and well documented war reports. It seems we have finally reached our long lasting goal to remove Carthaginian influence from "our" side of the Mediteranean.

Your appointment of gouvernours is a bit of an annoyance. You have 5 turns to take care of the empire, all the way. But let this nagging from an ancient emperor not take away any of the shine you have well deserved on the battlefields.
