I see three large holes that oppoents could go thru with very direct routes.

1. From SW: Due SW of Babylon thru Due West of Babylon. (Western portion of this starts if our Warrior continues moving north past the mountain)

2. From SE: Due SE of Babylon thru Due SE of Inanta's Throne

3. From NW: Due NW of point just N of Plains of Ashur thru WNW of Plains of Ashur.

Question: why is our score 2 points lower than the other civs that settled in turn 2?

I suspect they settled directly next to a bonus food source, and hence their food boxes may have more in them. I think that is a contributor to the score.

I believe it's only pop points that matter in score, not food boxes.

I would imagine it's because their settlement patterns have given them an extra tile or two of territory. Territory is a big part of score.

Ah - that makes sense. It would suggets their initial city pattern is slightly more dispersed than us.

Ok - it is agreed that the eastern warrior - Gunther - moves to the mountain.

To the west, Cain is the subject of some debate. Jon has suggested, and Klo agrees, that he should cycle back south - doing a counter-clockwise circle of our core.

BFM has argued that contact with our neighbours is paramount, and that Can should head in a northerly direction.

I am still thinking.

The save is here. Will play it when I get home from work.

I am going to be moving Cain west, then north. I have reviewed the arguments back and forth, and they are fairly balanced. I think the early contact and intercepting of other civ's units are key. Moreso with the goody hut being where it is - and the poetential for another civ to reach it first.

Tired of ads?

We should definitely move south with Warrior Babylon then. I think we can risk it, and we need to locate any other core food sources ASAP.

3850 Bc Turn Played

Irrigation completed on cows tile; being worked by Plains of Ashur Citizen.

Gunther moves east. More coast revealed, and good looking city sites.

Cain moves west - desert to the west. I'm trying to recall if this was a wrap-around map, or can we be sure there is coast in that direction.

Screen prints in the next turn thread.

I will pull the relevant post from here into a city sites discussion thread. This is the downside of one thread per turn ie. losing the continuity of the discussion. But a separate thread for the city sites discussion should deal with it.

Both proposals have merit, however, it appears there will be no enemies to the south. We are on a small map and it will be to our advantage to know who we are up against and where they are.

When we are close to having another settler, we should send one warrior (at least) to the south to scout city locations.

My worry with scouting the south is so we can finalize granaries vs. settlers. I think joncnunn's proposal to build granaries in both Babylon and Plains of Ashur is good assuming there are no more food resources near Babylon; however, if we discover there are more to the south, I'd probably be in favor of having Babylon build a settler instead of a granary.

see http://apolyton.net/forums/showthre...threadid=129717 for a list of formulas.

  • Approval Rating: we're last! All the other civs seem to have connected their Luxury (Ivory?).
  • Population: #1! The two civs before us are either do not have 3 cities, or they have inferior terrain (resulting in less filled food storages).
  • GNP: #2! We do have a lot of Commerce, but why were we only 4th during the last turn?
  • Mfg.Goods: #1! Shields! A very good sign!
  • Land Area: #1! Well, there goes the theory about the better settling patterns by the other civs.
  • Military Service: #6. Can't really figure out why. I do suppose most civs have 3 citizens (1 for each city) and 2 warriors...
  • Annual Income: #6: Confirms the Approval Rating statistic.
  • Productivity: #2. 6 Shields + 9 Commerce + 7 Net Food = 22. Since we have most Shields and most Commerce, someone is having way too much food here! (could be a corruption thing, too, but that effect seems to be small)

Looking at the new scores, something bad seems to have happened with the Grim Reaper team...
Or maybe they just didn't found all their cities yet?

Agreed. But the Babylon warrior will be out shortly and will have the land explored fairly quickly - if the coastline is any indication. And we should have that knowledge long before either a settler or granary would be complete in one of the existing cities.
